Our 2018 Fandom Wishlist

Dearest fairy godmothers, hear our wishes!

After the horror of 2016 and the nightmare of 2017, I don’t think anyone is particularly optimistic about what 2018 might bring. While our political wishlist is perhaps just as long, listing out all the things that need to get better in world politics was just going to send me into a spiral. And so instead I decided to compile a fun fandom wishlist, with all the things we hope will happen on our favorite shows and in our favorite movies.

Please feel free to post your own wishes in the comments! If we all collectively will the universe, then our wishes shall be so. Impossible things are happening every day.

  • That I get to see A Wrinkle in Time at least three times
  • That Annihilation will be as super-cool as it looks
  • That Hope van Dyne will indeed be the complicated hero and breakout star of Ant-Man and the Wasp
  • That Mera gets to be a true queen in Aquaman
  • That Avengers: Infinity War will make us cry all the good tears
  • That Kaila’s and my precious son will not betray everyone to Thanos in Infinity War
  • That Captain America’s beard will be as glorious throughout Infinity War as it is in the trailers
  • That Black Panther merch will be everywhereeeee
  • That Black Panther passes the Bechdel Test a thousand million times, because look at all these amazing female characters. They cannot spend the whole movie talking to T’Challa.
  • That Deadpool 2 will re-cast alleged sexual assaulter T.J. Miller or just cut him out. I can’t enjoy raunchy comedy with his gross face in the frame.
  • That Jodie Whittaker absolutely crushes it as the first female Doctor on Doctor Who
  • That Ava DuVernay directs ALL THE THINGS
  • That Kevin Feige hurries it up and greenlights that all-female Marvel movie
  • That some blessed soul posts a fan cut of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald where I don’t have to see Johnny Depp in it
  • That the third season of The Good Place debuts in 2018
  • That every single time I watch David Harbour in Hellboy, I will remember that this is the same actor who plays Hopper on Stranger Things
  • That Robin Wright will be so stellar on her solo season of House of Cards that we all forget Kevin Spacey ever existed
  • That Patty Jenkins directs ALL THE THINGS
  • That Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom is nowhere near as sexist (like, seriously sexist) as Jurassic World
  • That the reboot of The L Word lives up to its promise to be “more inclusive”
  • That The New Mutants gives me nightmares
  • That the women of color in Ocean’s 8 get as much screen time as the white women
  • That Once Upon A Time will quit it with the magical rape trope
  • That the Oscar nominations, which will be announced on January 23, 2018, will be more diverse than the 2018 Golden Globes nominations were
  • That Red Sparrow is the Black Widow fanfiction film we deserve
  • That Runaways gets real gay, real soon
  • That both Donald Glover’s performance and his space capes will be as glorious as they should be when he plays Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story
  • That Stranger Things (if it actually comes out in 2018) won’t continue that stupid rivalry between Eleven and Max
  • That Taika Waititi directs ALL THE THINGS
  • That Tessa Thompson and Kelly Marie Tran are cast in all my favorite fandoms
  • That Wayhaught will last forever on Wynona Earp
  • That X-Men: Dark Phoenix isn’t complete trash
  • That X-Men: Dark Phoenix is such complete trash that they start all over and finally give us an awesome Phoenix saga

What fandom wishes would you add to the list?
