Things We Saw Today: Shuri’s Strike Gauntlets from Black Panther Are Now Available As Nerf Toys

Recommended Videos

Black Girl Nerds is reporting that Shuri’s strike gauntlets from Black Panther are now available as a toy in stores. The report is based off one tweet, so availability may vary depending on your location, but these look amazing. Though, seriously, if they’re already out, then why did I not see them advertised before Christmas?

I’m also obsessed with the packaging. As Jamie Broadnax over at Black Girl Nerds wrote, “I think what makes me tear up the most—yes I have tears seeing this—is the image of the Black girl on the box smiling and posing with the toy.  This is what Shuri is going to give little Black girls everywhere.”

  • This is the definition of dystopia/utopia. In the music video for Jay-Z’s “Family Feud,” Ava DuVernay has gifted us with a vision of an America where women, especially black women, are the political leaders. Alas, you need to get a subscription to Tidal to see it. (via Essence)
  • Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director J.A. Bayona has stated that the sequel to Jurassic World will contain “the biggest set-piece ever done for a Jurassic movie.” I mean, that’s cool, but will we fix the sexism problem? (via /Film)
  • Cristin Milioti did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about her episode of Black Mirror, “USS Callister.” Spoilers at the link, so be warned!
  • Erica Garner, the Black Lives Matter activist and daughter of Eric Garner, has tragically passed away at the age of 27. Erica died of a heart attack that was caused by a severe asthma attack. In her honor, her official Twitter account requested that people “go find a way to support your local foster care system.” Rest in peace and power, Erica. (via The Root)

That’s all I got for today, TMSers! What’d you see?
