’80s Teen Sensations Tiffany and Debbie Gibson Battle on SyFy

Recommended Videos

It was announced last summer that 1980s teen sensations Debbie Gibson and Tiffany would be appearing/battling each other in a SyFy movie called “Megapython vs. Gatoroid,” which is scheduled to air this Saturday. Just try and tell me what’s wrong with this sentence, because for me, a girl who sang “Electric Youth” into a hairbrush the year I got my first pair of glasses, this is proof that all is right with the world. Everything is going according to plan.

Some people might be too young to remember, but back in the late 1980s, Tiffany and Debbie Gibson were pitted against each other as bitter rivals. They sang bubblegum pop music but — we were told — secretly hated each other. Like Britney and Christina, or Katy Perry and everyone else. This was actually not the case, but the thought of this translating into an epic battle royale in a campy science fiction movie is wonderful on so many levels for people my age. Ladies and gents. For different reasons entirely, but still — this is a serious nostalgiagasm. This is something that, until now, might have only happened on Robot Chicken, but someone was brilliant enough to make it actually happen.

The plot goes a little something like this:

Gibson will play a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores, sending them into the Everglades, where they grow to mega sizes. Tiffany will play an overzealous park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators.

And for some reason, they end up in Tiffany’s VIP lounge (???) in cocktail dresses and fight in a swamp:

“Megapython vs. Gatoroid” airs on SyFy this Saturday, January 29 at 9/8 Central. “Imagine greater”? They couldn’t possibly!

Just as a refresher (or for reference), feel free to view Tiffany’s biggest hit, the mall-tastic “I Think We’re Alone Now” and
Debbie Gibson’s science-fiction-foreshadowing “Electric Youth.” You’re welcome (for the history lesson).

(OMG! from Yahoo and SyFy)
