Is there an innocent explanation or something more sinister going on?

A Woman Gets Multiple Calls to Her Hotel Room Overnight, Then Staff Tell Her There's 'Nothing Logged' When She Asks What Happened

For women traveling alone, a hotel room should be a safe place. However, if something unforeseen happens, any feeling of safety can vanish instantly. In a TikTok video on her account, @livingwithsarah (Sarah) shared a series of events that she says occurred in her hotel that have left her disturbed and scared.

She said she’d gone to bed a little early and then, a while later, received a call on the room’s telephone. She said she initially thought it was her phone alarm but later realized it was the hotel phone, and she was shocked they were calling at such a late hour. Anyway, she says she let the phone ring until it stopped, then went back to sleep, only to be woken again by a knock at the door.

Sarah says it was past eleven, and she was reluctant to open the door, but she did anyway. She was told that the people who had come were from the reception, and they asked if Sarah had called for help, which she denied. They left, but Sarah admits the incident unsettled her, and she decided to call the cops. Before calling, however, she wanted to address the issue directly with the hotel staff. Then received another call that night. She said she answered it, but no one responded.

The next morning Sarah approached the front desk demanding answers. The manager refused to admit any fault, insisting they had not called her room more than once and had not sent anyone to her door. They also claimed no call logs supported her story. They said they would review CCTV footage to verify her claims.

“They were calling your room to see if you were in there”

Reflecting on the entire ordeal, Sarah remarked, “This is crazy. This is absolutely crazy. Feeling real weird about that.” She also expressed hope that she would get answers to her questions and said she would be okay if they told her there was a mistake or if they were following up on previous requests, instead of leaving the situation unclear.

People in the comments section of Sarah’s post raised alarm bells upon hearing the incident. Some people suggested that Sarah leave as soon as possible. One user wrote, “this sounds like trafficking with staff involved. you should probably leave.” Another user said, “They were calling your room to see if you were in there. Change hotels!”

A few others theorized that she was in danger of becoming victim of human trafficking. One user commented, saying, “Human trafficking with the night employee involved. I’ve experienced similar situations in creepy hotels. File a report and change hotels asap!!!” Another user stated, “yeah, you need to get out of that room ASAP. Sounds like Human trafficking stuff.”

Sadly, Sarah’s experience isn’t isolated. While she was just knocked at her door, a flight attendant in Chicago reported someone trying to enter her hotel room.

Sarah provided an update for the incident

In a video she uploaded later, Sarah said that the hotel staff told her that a woman who was part of the cleaning staff was completing her morning tasks at night and had visited her room to check if she needed help with anything. In the video, although she mentioned that she did not understand why the woman had to visit her room in the middle of the night, she understood that the woman would have to do her job.

She mentioned that she asked the hotel staff to compensate for her troubles, but they only agreed to waive the pet fee (she was traveling with her dogs). When she pressed further, the staff allegedly agreed to take off 50 percent from the hotel room charges.

Regarding the treatment she received after reporting the incident, Sarah’s experience is similar to that of a woman who checked into a Dallas hotel room and found a man inside, who the hotel staff claimed was a maintenance worker.
