A Guest Says a Best Man Used His Speech to Call Out the Bride’s Secret Deal With Him: ‘We Were Going to Start Our Life’

This guy didn't live up to his title of being the "best" man at the wedding.

A Guest Says a Best Man Used His Speech to Call Out the Bride's Old Deal With Him: 'We Were Going to Start Our Life'

When @thestorytella_ (Michael Martucci) RSVP’d to an acquaintance’s wedding, he didn’t expect drama, but he got it anyway. In a video uploaded to his TikTok, Martucci recalled attending a couple’s reception and, for storytelling purposes, focused on the moment the maid of honor and best man gave their speeches.

Martucci said the best man engaged in some light banter during his speech with the groom, Shawn, including saying he had known him for 19 years. He also apparently spoke about how he introduced Shawn to Sharon and how he knew they would be “perfect’ for each other.

Then, the best man turned his attention to the bride, Sharon, and confronted her about their “deal.” He said they made a truce in their first year out of college that if they were 31 and not engaged, they would get married. He asked, “What happened, Sharon?” He mentioned that Sharon and Shawn had been dating for five years and that on her 31st birthday she wasn’t engaged, hinting at the breaking of their truce.

“It’s the best man’s fault”

The best man showed no signs of stopping his speech. He allegedly added that he met Sharon in Babylon on the night of her birthday, and she told him, referring to Shawn, that she didn’t want to be with a man “that wasn’t sure” of her.

He also revealed that they hooked up and then spent every day of the week together after returning. He also listed the things he did for her, including going to the vet with her. He also said they talked and decided to start their life together.

Then, in his speech, the best man highlighted, according to Martucci, that when Shawn proposed to Sharon as a surprise, she shooed the best man (her friend) away and then accepted the proposal. At this point, Martucci notes everyone is shocked, with some even recording the incident with their phones. Some people supposedly even considered the whole thing to be part of a skit.

After all this, the best man apparently dropped the mic and left, leaving the bride crying. Martucci notes that it became clear to him the wedding was no longer happening. His story showcases how quickly a wedding can become tense. Similar incidents include a Dallas woman who, at a wedding, stood up and claimed the groom had gotten her pregnant and given her an STD.

People in the comments section of Martucci’s post have shared their opinions on the story behind his video, with some saying they think it would have been better if the best man had brought this story to the groom’s attention earlier.

One user wrote, “Although she made a promise, it’s the best man’s fault for not bringing it up before the actual FREAKING wedding TOAST!” Another user said, “Dude is not a true homie for freaking holding that in TIL THE WEDDING!!!!! He should have come clean to his supposed friend, the groom, the second it happened.”

A few others complained about Martucci leaving the wedding earlier than he should have. One user commented, “My nosey butt would have been leaving with the cleaning crew cause the way I would have needed to be there for EVERYTHING that happened after that speech!” Another questioned, “YOU LEFT?!?!?! When it got good??!?!”

Probably not the kind of update you would expect

In a video Martucci uploaded later discussing the incident, he said that after he had left, he asked some of the people at the reception whom he knew what had happened after he left. Martucci said that based on the information he received from these people, Shawn and Sharon apparently returned, addressed the crowd, and said that the best man was in a “manic episode” after being off his medication.

They told the audience that he was schizophrenic and bipolar, and that whatever he said wasn’t true. Sharon then admitted to confiding in him a couple of times when she was having a tough time, but revealed that she did so only because she thought that since he was Shawn’s best friend, he would be able to get through to her better.

She also admitted to a few other things, including agreeing that the best man helped her mother move out of her condo, but clarified that they weren’t involved sexually.
