In a viral TikTok video with 19,200 views, user GinaMarie Leoni (@ginamarieleoni) shared the moment she discovered what came in the huge bag of goodies from a Long Island bagel shop.

“Today, we’re in Plainview picking up a Too Good To Go order at Town Bagels,” the woman explained in the clip. “Let’s see what goodies we get this time.”

After she left the store with her haul, she realized she scored a major deal.

“This one is crazy,” she said. “Look how big this bag is.”

Then she held up a huge paper bag that was stuffed to the brim with items. The woman counted over 30 bagels in the bag.

It also contained two muffins.

“And this is how you make friends with your neighbors,” she concluded. “You get lots of ‘Too Good To Go’ orders and then you go door-to-door with baggies of bagels.”

What Is Too Good To Go?

Too Good To Go is an app that aims to eliminate food waste.

It connects customers with restaurants that have food surpluses and sells them at a discount.

Consumers can use the app to get deals from local restaurants, cafes, groceries and more.

The app features daily “Surprise Bags” that can be picked up from the store of choice during a set timeframe.

The app also offers larger “parcels” of surplus food from wholesalers and manufacturers that can be delivered to a specific location.

How Much Food Is Wasted Per Year?

Food waste in the hospitality industry has reached staggering amounts.

According to ReFED, the restaurant industry is responsible for 11.4 million tons of food waste annually. This inefficiency comes with a steep price tag of about 25 billion dollars each and every year.

The waste has also created an environmental crisis and negatively impacts the economy.

According to one recent study, all of that thrown-away food consumes 350 million barrels of oil yearly. This is determined based on the cost of growing and processing it, packaging it, and shipping it.

Multiple initiatives have been launched to address the issue.

Too Good To Go is one app that is trying to address this growing issue.

“That’s worth way more than $21,” user Cali commented.

One user confirmed they also received a large haul from the same store.

“I get there too good to go bags all the time there was so much in it,” user jenniferwainberg2 said.

Others were convinced that they should try the app, even if they didn’t necessarily want to score a whole sack of bagels.

“Ok going to try have the app but don’t want so many bagels going to try another store,” user
Lisa from Long Island said.
