What To Do When You Discover Your Co-Worker Writes Erotic Hulk Fanfic

On finding unexpected things

A few years ago, when I started working with special needs children, I did my best to erase my fannish presence from the Internet. I deleted fandom accounts, locked down my social media, and made new aliases in case my old ones had been compromised. I was concerned that parents wouldn't want me working with their children if they knew that I'm the kind of person who engages in complicated debates about Omega reproductive organs.

Nerd Semantics Cross Language Barriers With Yaoi, Slash, & Otaku

Essay

Words change, and words get used different ways in different places. Ask someone from the United States what word they use to refer to carbonated beverages, and you will hear at least two different answers. Sometimes three or more. English borrows words all the time from different languages, too. In anime and manga fandom, the words involved tend to be borrowed from Japanese. Words like otaku, words like yaoi.

X-Men Stars Michael Fassbender & James McAvoy View Fan Art Gallery While Hugh Jackman Reads Slash [VIDEO]

Romance

Actors finding out about the stuff fans do on the internet in their spare time is one of my favorite things. The latest example: Days of Future Past stars Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy appearing on The Graham Norton Show, along with Hugh Jackman, and getting a crash course is slash. Previously in X-Men

China Isn’t Having Any of Your Science Bros., They’ve Arrested 20 Slash Fanfiction Writers

Team China: Imagination Police.

I'm no huge proponent of fanfiction, but arresting people is taking it a bit far, China. Well, for China, it really isn't. Their Internet and media in generally are broadly censored, but a new report suggests that the country's police have arrested at least 20 people for writing romantic tales starring their favorite fictional male characters.

Conan Confronts Tom Felton With Very Slashy Harry/Draco Fanart

I See What They Did There

Sometimes you have to wonder, when you're dicking around the internet and "stumble" on some particularly slashy bit of fan fiction or fanart, what exactly the actors who played these characters would think about this. Are they tickled by visions of their characters canoodling with co-stars? Are they absolutely terrified of what the world of fandom has wrought? Well, Conan decided to test this when he had Tom Felton on as a guest and showed him some of the more notable Draco/Harry fanart that has been circulating around the internet since he was, oh, about 14. Tom Felton has always been one of the more publicly fan-connected of the Harry Potter cast, and has even mentioned certain ships in interviews before, so the fact that Conan felt comfortable confronting him with this isn't completely off the wall. Still, he expresses his approval of fanfiction as a whole, even if he is a bit alarmed at the bits that involve him, naked, in bed with Daniel Radcliffe.  (via Youtube)

There And Back Again

Hey, remember Haley Joel Osment from A.I.: Artificial Intelligence? Pay It Forward? Okay, fine, The Sixth Sense, in which he saw dead people? Well, that's what he looks like now! And he's still acting in things! His latest project is going to be an adaptation of Steve Niles' graphic novel Wake the Dead, and he will be playing a college student who experiments with raising the dead like a young Dr. Frankenstein. Hey, good for him! We thought he was destined for a life of crystal meth and hookers. Or just college.

The Entire Country Hated the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Don't worry: It wasn't just you. We all watched the same biblically catastrophic halftime performance by the Black Eyed Peas last night. And the entire United States agrees that this was maybe the worst possible thing that has ever assaulted our eyes, ears, hearts, and minds. And probably the worst thing that happened to Slash's reputation.

Axl Rose Suing Activision Because Slash was in Guitar Hero III

Not content to just let old feuds die, Axl Rose, singer of the famed rock band Guns N' Roses, is now suing Activision for $20 million over licensing terms regarding a deal that supposedly granted Activision rights to use "Welcome to the Jungle" in Guitar Hero III only if former band member Slash didn't appear in the game. Well, as everyone can plainly see from the game's cover, Slash appeared pretty prominently in the game.
