Two Primetime Sitcoms Are Getting Star Wars-Themed Episodes For May The Fourth

Never let it be said that Lucasfilm doesn’t love tie-ins. Both The Big Bang Theory and The Goldbergs have partnered with the Star Wars production company to honor that most revered holiday, May The Fourth. Geek culture is kind of the entire point of The Big Bang Theory, so no real surprise there. However, it sounds like they’re going all out with the set design for this one. Here’s a hint: I’m sure it’s perfectly safe for droids. From The Hollywood Reporter:

For the episode, the CBS comedy teamed with a group of special effects technicians from Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light & Magic to re-create Dagobah — the remote world of swamps and forest that served as a refuge for Yoda during his exile — and provide props for the episode, including a light saber. Lucasfilm experts consulted on the episode and visited the Big Bang Theory set to oversee the production, with the final touches completed at its San Francisco headquarters.

Elsewhere within your television, ABC comedy The Goldbergs will be showing the franchise some love as well. The episode will follow characters Adam and Erica as they wait in line for the 1983 opening of Return of the Jedi. Apparently “elaborately costumed Star Wars fans” will play a part. I admit, The Big Bang Theory is not my cup of tea, and The Goldbergs was unknown to me until roughly an hour ago. I will be celebrating Star Wars Day the way I usually do: watching the original trilogy and eating leftover birthday cake (I was born on the 3rd). But what about you guys? Will Star Wars-themed episodes make you more likely to watch? Or not so much? (via Blastr and The Hollywood Reporter) Previously in Star Wars
