Man leaves money for woman to clean his apartment, then learns she spent five hours cleaning someone else’s house
Alls well that ends well
A man left money for a cleaning lady, hoping to return to a squeaky-clean apartment, but life had other plans. In a TikTok video, Brian Grossi (briangrossicomedy) said he met the woman who cleans the hallways of his apartment building and asked her to clean his room. “I decided to splurge and have my apartment cleaned. So I hired the woman that cleans the hallways in my walk-up to come and do it,” Grossi said.
Grossi said the woman agreed to work on his apartment, after which they exchanged details and agreed that she would clean it next Thursday, since he wouldn’t be there. Grossi said he texted the woman Thursday morning to say the money was on the desk, his apartment keys were with the doorman next door, and he would be back by 5:30.
The woman was apparently updating Grossi on the progress of her work, and at some point he alleged she told him there was no money for her in the apartment. Puzzled by this revelation, Grossi recalled thinking, “I left a stack of money on the desk. Like, I’ve never had this person clean my apartment before. I don’t know if she’s trying to get more money out of me.” Upon Grossi’s insistence, the lady looked again and apparently found nothing. She even told him the keys he left her didn’t work.
Confused, Grossi said he sent her a picture of his building, and she sent him a picture of the building she was in, and unfortunately, they were not the same. “Not only was she not in my apartment, she wasn’t in my building,” Grossi said. He added, “She went to the building next door. She tried to get into the apartment number that was my apartment number, but in the wrong building….The doorman let her into somebody else’s apartment…The woman happened to be on vacation, and then she spent five hours cleaning that apartment.”
“You both did something nice for a stranger”
Grossi mentioned that he eventually paid the lady extra for her labor since she cleaned two houses. People in the comments seemed to appreciate that. One person wrote, “She was probably exhausted and did all that extra work, poor thing haha you throwing her extra was the right thing to do. It will come back to you!” Another said, “Good on you for paying her for the mistake, even though it wasn’t your fault. Good man.”
Some people discussed how the woman whose apartment the cleaning lady cleaned would be coming back to a clean apartment from her vacation. One person commented, saying, “You both did something nice for a stranger. I wish I could see their surprise when they come back from vacation.” Another person remarked, “Imagine having a big apartement, being away on vacation, and coming back to a clean place. UGH!”
A few others discussed the safety risks and highlighted how easy it was for the cleaning lady to get keys to someone’s apartment. One person wrote, “So if you want to get access into someone’s place, all you have to do is tell the doorman you’re a cleaning person?” Another said, “Fire that doorman… he actually trespassed.”
While Grossi’s story mainly highlights the apartment mix-up, it also brings up crucial security issues. The internet is full of examples that remind us to be careful about who enters our homes. The cleaning lady should not have been able to access the woman’s apartment so easily because, in the wrong hands, the situation could have been very different.
