Australian woman gets stood up before a 4-hour flight, then hears her Hinge date’s voice note and realizes the truth: “I’ve dodged the biggest bullet”

TikTok viewers found her Hinge date's short voice note rather unhinged.

An Australian woman was stood up by her Hinge date before a four-hour flight, only for him to resurface later with a 37-second voice note explaining that he slept in and had jiu-jitsu training. Somehow, he also ended up being “jealous” that she went to their planned coffee spot without him.

Harmony shared the dating mishap on TikTok, where the video has racked up nearly 850,000 views, according to the New York Post. Screenshots show that the pair planned to meet at Gather & Grounds for coffee at 8:30 a.m. before her flight.

At 7:38 a.m., Harmony texted, “Still keen on Gather and Grounds at 8:30?” When no response came, she followed up at 10:58 a.m. with a sarcastic review of their nonexistent date: “Coffee was great this morning if you were wondering!” Later on, her date responded with an explanatory voice note accompanied by the sound of him eating.

His morning apparently included an ‘appointment with Jiu-Jitsu’

“F***, I’m so sorry,” the man began before explaining that he slept until around 9:30 a.m. and hadn’t checked his phone.

He then said he had an “appointment with Jiu-Jitsu” because he’d promised to help a competitor train. The man proceeded to describe it as a “very rushed and silly morning for myself.”

Missing an 8:30 a.m. coffee date after sleeping until 9:30 a.m. already accounted for his absence, but the voice note had another plot point. “I’m jealous because I wanted to go to Gather & Grounds before you flew out,” he told Harmony. “I’m jealous that you went there without me.”

On the TikTok video, Harmony and her friend dissolved into laughter. “I’m jealous that you went to our date and I didn’t turn up!” her friend joked, while Harmony concluded, “I’ve dodged the biggest bullet.”

Harmony isn’t the only woman whose Hinge plans have ended before the date could properly get going. A Manchester woman recently spent two hours getting ready before her date stopped responding on the day they were supposed to meet.

Actually making it to a Hinge date doesn’t guarantee smoother sailing. Another woman deleted the dating app after an awkward dinner with a man who had been to Burning Man six times but reportedly refused to discuss his experiences there.

TikTok had opinions about the explanation

Viewers were particularly fascinated by the jiu-jitsu portion of Harmony’s voice note. “‘Appointment with jiu-jitsu’ is what I’m using from now on,” one commenter joked. Then there was the crowd who didn’t appreciate the loud chewing noises. “If someone would send me a voice note of them chewing, they’d be blocked for life…”

A portion of the commenters were convinced it was all a lie: “When he said ‘i didn’t even check my phone ‘ … lie detector test says ‘that was a lie’. ?. If he wanted to… he would have. Definitely dodged a jujitsu bullet there. You are too good for him.”

“The way he’s acting like he didn’t stand you up,” another TikTok user wrote. Then someone else chimed in, expressing further annoyance toward his eating sound effects. “His campsite bowl and spoon is GRINDING my gears!”
