While always celebrated in pockets of the Black American community, the national holiday Juneteenth has taken off in recent years due to television, social media, and just the power of having so many Black academics and writers discussing Black American traditions in the public eye. I myself only learned about it about three or so years ago, and my mother only two years ago. For those unfamiliar with the holiday, now seeing it all over social media, here are a few things to note about it.

Definitely check it out, and I, personally, can't wait for more Guttenberg on Holey Moley or to see that play he's working on!

Good on Star Trek for continuing to honor the legacy of the show and Gene Roddenberry. There's a reason Trek has continued to be a beacon of hope for fans across the world, and using its name and platform to help the Black Lives Matter movement makes me proud to be a Trekkie.

"I love The Mandalorian so much," I said to myself while watching this episode, and I honestly have this feeling frequently. It's funny, because so much of this show is just fans getting to play with Star Wars.

The entire situation is weird and complicated and just feels like Gaetz is using his "son" to further derail a discussion about actually doing something about racism.

Latoya Henderson, a makeup artist on Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is encouraging fans to keep their heads up about the possibility of getting to see the show sometime before 2020 is over. Girl, I hope.

I look forward to never reading this book.

In the lead-up to She-Ra and the Princesses of Power's final season, it was easy to question how the show might handle the redemption arc of Catra, one of its worst villains. The problem was not just that Catra was a villain; it was how committed she had been to pursuing her selfish goals at the expense of everyone around her.

Turquoise Jones (Nicole Beharie) is a single mother and former Miss Juneteenth winner in Fort Worth, Texas. She decides to enter her 15-year-old daughter, Kai (Alexis Chikaeze), in the local Miss Juneteenth pageant in order to attain the scholarship money to ensure Kai can go to college.
