Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal swapped Avengers: Doomsday roles for Halloween, and Pascal showed up as Doctor Doom in an MIT hoodie

‘Victor. Richard. Costume swap!’

Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal decided to switch their upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe roles for a fun Halloween celebration on Saturday, October 31, 2026. According to PEOPLE, the two actors, who are both set to appear in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, swapped their characters for the holiday. They shared the moment through a video on Instagram, giving fans a look at what happens when the hero and the villain trade places.

The reveal happened in a video where both actors started with their faces covered. Downey Jr. covered his face with his hands, while Pascal wore the iconic metallic mask of Doctor Doom in front of his own. They slowly pulled back to show off their swapped identities.

Downey Jr. looked identical to the version of Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, that Pascal plays. He wore the blue body suit that is signature to the character, complete with the Fantastic Four logo and a chunky white belt. Pascal, on the other hand, took on the mantle of Victor von Doom. He was seen in a green MIT hoodie, paired with a green cape and the villain’s famous silver mask.

‘Victor. Richard. Costume swap!’

Downey Jr. added a caption to his post that read, “Victor. Richard. Costume swap!” In the video, he also joked about the situation while Pascal laughed, saying, “Cross-dressing.” The interaction between the two stars was lighthearted and meant to entertain fans who are already tracking every bit of news about the next Avengers movie.

In a separate Instagram Stories post, the duo was seen walking arm in arm through the streets. Downey Jr. showed off some dance moves while walking, and Pascal laughed while sticking out his tongue at the camera.

Fans reacted quickly to the posts, filling the comment section with theories and jokes about the multiverse. One user wrote, “Did Loki mess with the timeline again???,” while another commented, “This is the multiverse of madness btw.” The costume choice sparked curiosity about whether the swap was meant to be a hint about the plot of the upcoming film. Little is known about the actual story of Avengers: Doomsday, but the excitement is building as the December 18 release date approaches.

The last massive reveal was at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024

It was confirmed in July 2024 that the Fantastic Four would appear in the fifth and sixth Avengers movies. This group includes Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

The same event brought the major reveal that Downey Jr. would return to the MCU, but not as Tony Stark. Instead, he is taking on the role of Doctor Doom. He made a dramatic entrance on stage during the presentation, walking out among a group of people wearing robes and masks before revealing his identity to the crowd. He said at the time, “New mask, same task. What did I tell ya? I like playing complicated characters.”

According to Deadline, the cast for these future films is quite large, featuring a mix of familiar and new faces. Beyond the main stars, the lineup includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. Other names on the list are Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, and Kelsey Grammer as Beast.

The roster continues with Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Winston Duke as M’Baku, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Fans can also look forward to seeing Patrick Stewart in a posthumous appearance as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.

The costume choice of an MIT hoodie for Pascal’s Doctor Doom look might be a nod to the character’s academic background. With the premiere date coming up fast, the anticipation for both the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom is at an all-time high.
