Rumor: TellTale Games Might Be Making a Game of Thromes Game

When you play the game of thrones, you game or you game. Game.

If the multiple sources that tipped off IGN lately are correct, then we might be getting a Game of Thrones interactive story game in the style of The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among us. By the old gods and the new! This’d better be real, or we might have to wage war across the Seven Kingdoms of the Internet.

When asked about the possibility of a Star Wars game in a recent Reddit AMA, Telltale CEO Dan Connors told readers that “we will be working on a few licenses that definitely fall into our dream IP scenario and we can’t wait to announce those.” According to the report that IGN editor Andrew Golfarb published yesterday, one of those dream IPs is Game of Thrones.

Of course, Telltale Games isn’t going to confirm or deny anything yet. Steve Allison, SVP of publishing for Telltale, had this official statement to Goldfarb:

We get these sorts of rumors about what we could be working on next cropping up all the time. Officially we have no comment.

Take note, Steven Moffat. This is how you refute a rumor without being all needlessly misleading about it.

Anyway, clearly there’s no guarantee that any of this information is true. It’s a rumor, after all. But wouldn’t if be great if it were true? Just imagine the possibilities. After all, The Walking Dead game is miles better than the TV show much of the time. What if they took a new character a la Lee Everett — or even better, a minor character from the A Song of Ice and Fire series who interacts with the main cast of warring families on the regular — and followed them across the continent of Westeros? Maybe a distant Frey relative, or a Northerner dealing with the loss of their Liege lord? They could even switch between POVs like the actual books and show do; Telltale tested out this particular storytelling device in the 400 Days DLC already and it worked pretty well.

In case you couldn’t tell, we’re pretty pumped about this, so we hope it’s a thing that actually happens and not just another “Bryan Cranston Lex Luthor” Internet bonanza. We can’t get burned again this time, guys. Seriously, we are physically unable to be burned. Fire cannot kill a dragon.
