  1. It’s the Geekosystem Podcast Episode 27 “RoboJesus in Space!”

And on the third day, he rose... into space.

This week on the Geekosystem podcast, Victoria, Dan, and Carolyn take control since I couldn't be in the office today. Even without me, it's the usual weirdness as the gang talks about cat cafés, RoboJesus, powdered alcohol, and butts.

  2. Celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Repeal Day with These 35 Geeky Cocktails, Just Not All at Once

    Go home, Prohibition! You're drunk!

80 Years ago today, Prohibition was repealed, and everyone raised a glass to celebrate. We think it's as good a reason as any to drink at work, so with the help of our friend Chris-Rachael Oseland from The Kitchen Overlord, we've put together a list of 35 geeky cocktails we think you should (responsibly) try.

  3. Why Isn’t This Steampunk AT-AT Liquor Cabinet Already in My Posession?

It's a shiny science fiction reference full of booze! Those are all of my favorite things!

Oh my God. Would you look at this thing? This gorgeous piece of art that amazing woodworker Colin Johnson has produced. It's a steampunk-inspired liquor cabinet made to resemble the walking AT-ATs from The Empire Strike Back. It probably doesn't do any actual walking since it's mostly made from mahogany and brass trim, but that's for the best, really. God forbid your alcohol start to walk away from you while you're trying to get at it. That's a recipe for disaster.

  4. Nanocapsule Sobers Up Mice In Record Time, Could Lead To Pills That Stop Your Drunk Cold

Have you ever gotten that kind of drunk where all you can do is watch the room spin and wish you weren't so drunk? It's alright -- most of us have been there. But UCLA researchers may have come up with a new method of sobering up quickly -- a nanocapsule full of enzymes that help digest alcohol. It's been shown to be a promising treatment to alleviate drunkenness in mice, and could one day mean a pill that sobers you up before the hangover sets in, or at least before you start saying unpleasant things about the bouncer's mom.

  5. Flies Raised On Booze Need Alcohol To Learn, Just Like College Students

Fly larvae -- fine, maggots -- that are raised on food spiked with alcohol grow up into flies who can't learn normally without the aid of a little booze juice, marking yet another way in which maggots are pretty much just like college students. A study demonstrating the difficulties maggots experienced while trying to process new information without the aid of a morning beer to take the edge off things appears this week in the journal Current Biology, which reminds us that keg stands are not always recreational choices -- sometimes they are educational tools.

  6. Young Birds Get Dangerously Drunk On Fermented Berries

It turns out that, just like human teenagers, young birds can also get tipsy off of alcohol, make some poor decisions, and end up clumsy, stumbling wrecks. That's the finding of a study of young blackbirds who got tanked off of fermented rowan berries near a primary school in England last year.

  7. Glazed Donut Vodka: A Dream Come True!

If I had a nickel for every time I was sitting in a Krispy Kreme and thought to myself,"You know what this donut could really use?Hard liquor!" I might have enough to buy a bottle of 360 Vodka's Glazed Donut-flavored Vodka. Rise, shine, and say,"Nostrovia!"

  8. So Here’s a Norwegian Guy Drunk Out of His Mind and on Ice Skates [Video]

Judging from his videos, this Norwegian man is good at three things: Uploading HD videos to YouTube, ice skating, and drinking. Thankfully, when the three of these things come together, the result is magical. This video is all about the escalation, so it's worth watching it all the way through. Also, now that I've watched a good deal of his other videos I kind of wonder if this dude has a deal with Vikingfjord vodka. Either way, he's a hero.

  9. This Massive Cocktail Chart is Maddeningly Complex in Its Alcoholic Beauty [Infographic]

Speaking as Geekosystem's resident booze snob, I love a good cocktail. However, I have a really hard time keeping recipes straight which is why this enormous chart from Pop Chart Labs would really come in handy. On it, you can find just about everything you need to know in order to make 68 drinks, all coming from 40 kinds of booze, a collection of mixers and garnishes. It even tells you the preferred glass to serve it in. The only thing this chart won't do for you is provide the mysterious alchemical talent needed to transmogrify a good drink into a great one, but might justify the purchase of some arcane items. All the better.

  10. This Homemade AT-AT Liquor Cabinet Could Conquer Hoth, Hold Your Booze

Some people just house their booze in an unused cabinet, or if you're in college you can just throw it all in the freezer -- guaranteeing that it will be completely tasteless and thus more easily consumed. However, neither of these options were good enough for master DIY-er Colin Johnson, who instead went and built this gorgeous wood and brass Imperial AT-AT liquor cabinet. Complete with a mirrored interior, it's the perfect repository for your Romulan Ale whatever it is they drink in the Star Wars universe. See more pictures, after the break.
