So much Sassy Wheatley!
Next up on my shameful, shameful catch up of games I didn’t play is Portal 2, chosen by you, dear readers and best of friends – and can I just say you have not disappointed me so far. But I have very much disappointed myself – what honestly took me so long?!Read More

Well done. Here come the test results: "You are a horrible parent."
Portal physics is a tricky thing, one that test subjects need to master to complete the tasks set for them. But typically test subjects are not three years old, nor do they have negligent parental figures videotaping them. I bet this poor kid doesn't even get cake after his ordeal.Read More
It depends largely on how much cake they promise us.
Would you take orders from a robot? With lasers and deadly neurotoxin, they've got plenty of ways to make you, but a research team examined whether or not people would do it willingly. Armed with incredibly boring tasks and adorable tininess, a robot pushed people to see just how long they'd take its GLaDOS-style nonsense.Read More
She's doing science and she's still alive.
You don't need to be a Portal fan to instantly recognize Ellen Maclain's voice -- she was also the AI in every jaeger from Pacific Rim. However, NASA Spitzer was certainly hoping to channel GLaDOS with this video, in which a "science-mad" computer teaches two technicians about fusion and fission.Read More
Part of me can't even believe I wrote that headline. But it's true. The voice of Portal's maniacal GLaDOS, Ellen McLain helped with this video fro the education and public outreach department of NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, focusing on STEM education. What was that about fake geek girl cosplayers again?
While a favorite among fans of the Portal video game series, GLaDOS is a tricky character to cosplay -- since she's, you know, a non-humanoid robot. While many cosplayers go for the "make her into a lady" route, Athena Cole of Enayla Cosplay decided to go with a different approach.Read More
The Cake Is A Lie
OMG. What is happening? I am so freaked out right now. Oh, what's that? This is for a Kickstarter project starring voice master Ellen McClain? Well, alright then. Carry on. (And check out another Kickstarter she's involved with as well. Busy lady!) Are you following The Mary Sue on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, & Google +?Read More

Fans Do Cool Things
Not a Misprint
We're not quite sure why singer-songwriter Jonathan Coulton performed the classic "Still Alive" from Portal on CBS. I mean sure, he wrote the song for the 2007 video game but why now? Why CBS? I can't tell when it was uploaded and I don't see any mention of it on his Twitter. Is someone at CBS a big Portal fan or is this the work of GLaDOS? We may never know... Chelsea GR put together this animated version of the pivotal scene in Portal 2 where the player accidentally resurrects/awakens the murderous GLaDOS. Except this time, both GLaDOS and Wheatley are human ...or at least humanoid, imbuing them both with wonderfully expressive body language. I particularly like the way Wheatley's eyes flicker out electronically, but don't blink or you'll miss it. If you're looking for a bit more of Chelsea's humanoid Wheatley in action, she's got another video of uncolored rough animation done over Stephen Merchant's voice acting.Read More
Feast of Fiction Tackles Portal‘s Black Forest Cake, GLaDOS Advises Fruit or Starvation As An Alternative [Video]
i'll just leave this here
Feast of Fiction has made a ton of geekdom's greatest dishes, and this week, they are tackling the secret Black Forest Cake recipe that shows up in the first Portal game. And it is a real, truthful cake, made with the help of portal guns. As you can imagine, GLaDOS was not entirely satisfied, but GLaDOS has no tastebuds, so whatever, GLaDOS. Since we support cake, you can find the recipe (which comes from Planet Fortress) on Feast of Fiction's YouTube page. (Feast of Fiction via Kotaku)Read More
Almost Totally Excellent
And Fansplosions Abound
Ellen McLain, voice of the maniacal GLaDOS and well... pretty much everything else in the game Portal (the voice cast expanded considerably in Portal 2), is perfectly willing to have some fun at the behest of fans. Nowhere is this more apparent than here, when, after being handed a script for a letter to a fictional character she's never heard of before, she read it faithfully in the character of GLaDOS, free for the internet to manipulate into a final robotic GLaDOS voice. The unfamiliar character? None other than Princess Celestia, ruler of Equestria. Want to see the recording sans computer overlay, which is almost as ominous as the digitized voice? Venture on, test subject:Read More
