‘Art will always be a form of resistance’: Macklemore hits back at industry censors as his new pro-Palestine tour sells out in minutes
True to the cause.

Macklemore is officially gearing up for his new Free Palestine Tour, and the response has been massive. According to The Hollywood Reporter, all three shows on his upcoming European run sold out immediately. The rapper took to Instagram on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, to share the news with his fans. His caption indicated that he was genuinely surprised by the speed of the ticket sales.
The tour includes stops in Dublin, Paris, and London. The performance at Dublin’s 3Arena is scheduled for October 26. Macklemore will then play at the Accor Arena in Paris on October 29. Finally, the tour wraps up at the OVO Arena Wembley in London on October 30.
In his post, Macklemore wrote, “I’m honestly blown away. We put these shows together fast and in community, believing that musicians can stand in solidarity with Palestine, use the stage to raise funds and show what collective action can look like. When those in power try to silence our calls for liberation, art will always be a form of resistance.”
The announcing of a new tour after a turbulent few weeks is a bold move
He was previously an opener for the Ed Sheeran Loop Tour in the United States. That arrangement ended abruptly after he made pro-Palestine remarks and performed his song Hind’s Hall during his set at MetLife Stadium on September 4. The fallout was swift and complicated. Reports indicated that venue owners, including New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, threatened to pull out of the tour if Macklemore stayed on the lineup.
The tour promoter ultimately decided to drop him from the bill. Ed Sheeran later attempted to clarify his own position on the matter. Absolving himself of any responsibility, Sheeran stated, “Macklemore coming off tour was the promoter’s decision, it was not mine. Macklemore’s contract for the tour was with the promoter, not me.” He also mentioned that he tried to facilitate talks between the parties to find a resolution.
The situation caused a significant ripple effect. Several other acts, including Finneas, Lukas Graham, and Aaron Rowe, chose to drop out of Sheeran’s tour in solidarity with Macklemore. Sheeran then had to address the issue during a concert in Philadelphia on September 19. Going the neutrality route, he expressed a desire to keep his shows focused on unity rather than political division.
Sheeran noted, “What happened in Israel and at the Nova Music Festival on October 7th was horrific and compounded centuries of Jewish pain. What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable, and disproportionate.”
Macklemore previously faced public backlash back in 2014
The rapper had worn a costume that many people criticized as being antisemitic. He issued an apology for that choice at the time. Now, he is shifting his focus entirely to his own series of shows. He announced the tour just last week, noting that all proceeds will go toward organizations supporting Palestinians. These groups include the Gaza Soup Kitchen, Medical Aid for Palestinians, and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, according to Billboard.
The shows are currently billed as Macklemore and Friends. He has not yet revealed the full list of performers who will join him on stage. He promised that the official lineups are coming soon. In his recent post, he addressed his fans directly. “Dublin, Paris and London, thank you for showing up the way you did. The response to these shows is another reminder of how many people across the world are standing together for a free Palestine. Can’t wait to be together.”
The rapper is standing firm in speaking up for Palestine
Macklemore is using his platform and the outpouring of support he has received after being dropped from Sheeran’s tour to help Palestine. By organizing these shows in record time, he is attempting to show what collective action ought to look like in the music industry. The speed at which these tickets sold is a testament to the public opinion on the genocide being committed by Israel.
It is a top-tier move to turn a setback into a series of sold-out performances. The industry will likely be watching closely to see how these shows unfold in October. Macklemore seems ready to continue his advocacy through his music and his stage presence. It is a unique moment for an artist to pivot so quickly after being removed from a major tour. The upcoming dates will serve as a test for his community-focused approach to touring.
