Our Rachel Leishman talked to the long-tenured DC actor about his new role in the upcoming film alongside Milly Alcock. He sounds elated to finally be bringing Lobo to the party. He had one request that was going to take some convincing though.

“It’s a little small thing, and not that I want to support smoking,” Momoa joked. “But, he has to have a cigar. It was a little fight that I had to have. But, I don’t really necessarily support that and have kids, ‘blah, blah, blah.’”

“But, it has to be in there for the character,” the DC star argued. “It’s a bit of a little fight…. Have you seen it?” After we confirmed that the new take on Supergirl is a wild ride. Momoa offered, “It’s not easy to be doing all that action and then huffing that thing.”

The Lobo actor pantomimed the movement and chuckled that even though he was out of breath, it still kind of ruled! Momoa also shared that he does a lot of animal-watching to prep for some of these roles.

Getting the DC character’s wild side onto film is going to be a joy for a lot of fans out there. “It’s funny you mention that, because a lot of my acting is studying animals. And, putting them into your roles.”

He offered, “But, he’s definitely so wild and so fun.”

Jason Momoa is psyched to play Lobo in Supergirl

Lobo is a pretty big departure from Momoa’s past in the DC Universe. But, that can be a good thing because getting to make some different choices can lead to some positive results.

The physical lift with the physical costuming and makeup is hard to ignore here. Lobo just isn’t Aquaman for a variety of reasons. But, maybe the biggest one is that Momoa’s performance is completely through the lens of “The Main Man.”

“I’ve never played a character where I’m completely just covered,” the star explained. “And everything’s just ‘not me.’ I look out and I look at people looking at me going ‘whoa!’ That’s an interesting feeling. And then, yeah, he’s going to be wild and unapologetic.”

Joking about his new character being “massively cool,” Momoa couldn’t stop smiling. “It’s the coolest **** in the world, there’s literally nothing cooler.” He is hyped about that motorcycle and wants you to know that definitively.

“Rolling in on a motorcycle, throwing a good hook, smoking cigars,” the actor said. “He’s kicking the **** out of everybody. Just walking, it’s like ‘This is cool!’”

There’s plenty to be excited about if you enjoy Momoa at his most outlandish.

What Is Supergirl About?

Here’s a teaser synopsis for the new movie. “When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”

Supergirl stands up for “Truth, Justice, Whatever” on June 26.
