Father Was Relaxing by the Pool With His Children, But a Woman Called the Cops on Them: ‘Just Because We’re Black’
The man claimed his children got traumatized.

A father and his children believed they were going to spend a relaxing day hanging out at the swimming pool, only for his children to be traumatized by an encounter with a woman he claimed demanded their IDs and called the police. Author Leo Sullivan shared the incident on his Facebook page and alleges that the woman was a “racist Karen.”
“Racist Karen and her buddy called the police on me and my children because we were the only Blacks at the pool,” Sullivan said in his post. He claimed to have given the unidentified woman proof that he lived in the Chicago apartment complex where the pool was located, but the woman insisted on seeing his ID. “Like who brings ID to a swimming pool?”
“I’m sitting out here at the pool with my children [and] I’m the only Black man out here. So, the nice white people came out and told me that if I don’t show them my ID, I have to leave,” Sullivan claimed in the video. Sullivan panned the camera around the area and showed viewers he and his family were sitting on the loungers during the incident.
Sullivan claimed his children were traumatized
In the video, the alleged woman appeared to be on the phone calling who Sullivan claimed were the police. “So, now they’re calling the police on me. Karen and her friend, she’s smiling, because they’re gonna call the police on me cause I don’t have an ID on me,” Sullivan claimed. “And not just that, nobody else has been asked to show their identification.”
The youngest of Sullivan’s children with him at the time of the incident can be heard asking his father to just show the woman his ID, worried that his father would end up in jail once the police arrived, before bursting into tears. “I don’t want you to go to jail. Please just get your ID,” Sullivan’s son begged.
Sullivan claimed that he explained the entire situation to the police when they arrived, and alleges that the officers agreed that he didn’t have to show anything to the woman involved. The father claimed that police were called again when the woman refused to give Sullivan her name.
“Just because we’re Black. We can sit here just like everybody else,” Sullivan said. The author claimed that the whole ordeal left his children traumatized and considered suing the woman. “This world is terrible. She saw my child crying and [began] smiling more. Just for that, I got into the pool and played with my boys.”
Commenters praised Sullivan for how he handled the situation and encouraged him to file a report. “You handled it well, but it’s so sad that they get so upset when they see we’re able to live in nice places and have nice things as well, I pray you and the kids are okay,” one said.
