The New ‘Supergirl’ Trailer Highlights The Differences Between Kara & Her Cousin
Oh, hi Clark.

Not all Kryptonians are alike, even in the same family. Sure, Superman appears in the new trailer for Supergirl, but only to remind us that Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) are not the same type of hero.
Watch the trailer, which corresponded with tickets going on sale, here. If you needed the reminder, Supergirl, written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie, lands in theaters on June 26, 2026.
“Here’s the thing,” Kara says at the start. “My cousin and I have very different ideas about what it means to be a hero. He sees the good in everyone, and I see the truth.” Of course, different does not mean that any more or less heroic. It’s not bad that Clark trusts and believes in others. But it’s not a prerequisite for saving the day. Superman might think that nice is the new punk rock. Supergirl is more punk rock in the traditional sense. The DC Comics universe is, obviously, big enough for several types of heroism and worldviews. Haaaave you met Batman?
The new Supergirl trailer continues to detail how space pirates called Brigands are destroying the galaxy. Another group of space pirates, specifically lady pirates, known as Sklarian raiders call on Supergirl to defend the galaxy. She’s got as much kick, punch, laser-beam, and quip in her as any superhero. She’s got some moves too! The trailer showed off even more of her acrobatic fighting style.
We also see Corenswet’s Superman in new footage. He hands his older (it’s complicated) cousin her iconic suit. “I know it’s pretty colorful,” he says, “but that’s just so everyone knows we’re good.” While she might partially cover it up with a duster, it doesn’t seem like Kara has any qualms about wearing the suit–even if this iteration of the DC Comics character is jaded and not necessarily as nice as her male counterpart. After all, in the immortal words of Stephen Sondheim, nice is different than good.
However, there is one thing that they do have in common.

We already know that Clark and Kara would do anything for her dog, Krypto. The adorable but chaotic animal’s health and safety was significant to the plot of James Gunn’s Superman and it will be significant to the plot of Supergirl. The new trailer puts a double underline, bold, italics, and highlights on it. These two will seriously do a lot of damage–to the bad guys, of course–for that pup.
Good! The desire to go to the end of the galaxy for your pet is so relatable. It’s gratifying to see a superhero take that literally. It should be where Kara and Clark’s ideologies merge. And it’s a testament to how good Supergirl looks that I’m willing to be stressed out about Krypto for a second film in a row. At least we know he’s in good hands.
