A Papa John’s Customer’s Delivery Nightmare Shows Why People Are Growing Frustrated With Third-Party Apps
A delayed pizza delivery left one customer frustrated and questioning who was responsible.

A Papa John’s customer, John Patrick Goggin, says what should have been a routine pizza delivery turned into a frustrating experience involving delayed order updates, an unexpected restaurant pickup, and a tense exchange with a DoorDash driver. Goggin shared the experience in a Facebook post, saying he was left trying to determine who was responsible for delivering his order.
According to Goggin, he placed his order around 5 p.m. through Papa John’s and received an estimated delivery time of 5:58 p.m. As that delivery window approached, he said the tracking information stopped updating, prompting him to contact the restaurant for more information.
Goggin Says the Delivery Plan Changed After He Called the Restaurant
Goggin said he called Papa John’s around 5:50 p.m. after noticing there had been no movement on his order. After an automated message informed him the delivery had been delayed, he said a manager explained that the restaurant did not have an available driver and had arranged for DoorDash to complete the delivery instead.
Rather than continue waiting, Goggin said he decided to pick up the pizza himself. While driving to the restaurant, however, he noticed that a DoorDash driver had been assigned to the order and reached out through the app to let them know he was already on his way.
Goggin shared screenshots showing he messaged the driver, writing, “I’m picking my own order up… if I get there and it not there I will be livid.” DoorDash’s automated system responded that it was connecting him directly with the person assigned to the delivery.
The driver replied, “No one’s taking ur order chill tf out.” Goggin said he was only trying to prevent confusion over who would be picking up the pizza, but felt the exchange made an already frustrating situation worse. He later questioned why a conversation about clarifying the order escalated into a tense interaction.
Multiple Companies Can Make Delivery Issues Harder to Resolve
Goggin’s account has not been independently verified, and neither Papa John’s nor DoorDash has publicly commented on the incident. While his experience is just one customer’s account, research has found that factors like delivery speed, communication, and service quality can influence how customers view online food delivery platforms.
A 2024 study examining customer satisfaction and perceptions toward online food delivery apps found that respondents considered factors such as delivery speed, order experience, and customer service important parts of their overall satisfaction. The study also noted that delays, food quality concerns, and communication issues can affect how users perceive these services.
Third-party deliveries often involve several steps and businesses. The restaurant prepares the order, the delivery platform manages the request and assigns a driver, and the driver handles transportation to the customer. When something changes during that process, customers may have to contact multiple companies to understand what is happening with their order.
In Goggin’s case, he said the uncertainty over who was handling the delivery and the communication that followed turned what should have been a straightforward pizza delivery into a frustrating experience.
