Babysitter Hears a Knock on the Door. The Kid She Was In-Charge of Invited a ‘Friend’: ‘Baby, That Man Gotta Go.’
Babysitting can be tough, especially when a household has two young children. Michelle (@letsbemimi), a babysitter, told TikTok about how a ten-year-old she was in charge of invited a ‘friend’ to the house without her parents knowing.
Michelle said that she used to babysit for the family at least once a month for $150. She went on shift, and it seemed to be a regular Saturday evening. She had to care for two girls, who were respectively five and ten years old. It was a blended family, and the ten-year-old girl was the mother’s child from a different relationship.
Mimi watched over the kids. She said that she usually gave the ten-year-old more freedom to do what she wanted to. If the child wanted to stay on her iPad instead of playing with Michelle and the younger sister, Michelle just let her be.
“She be having so many group chats,” Michelle observed. The ten-year-old used to share with the babysitter how she was in group chats with her cheerleader friends and more. At the time, Michelle didn’t think much of the ten-year-old staying in the nook, busily typing away on her iPad. She focused on the five-year-old for the evening, and they started playing together.
The parents had been away for fifteen minutes. Then, Michelle heard a knock on the door. Did somebody order a suspicious chocolate drink from DoorDash? Not exactly, because Michelle assumed that perhaps the parents forgot their keys.
Who’s the friend?
“No, I don’t think they forgot their keys. That’s my friend,” the ten-year-old chirped. Michelle asked if it was one of the girl’s friends from the group chats. The babysitter stated that the girls’ mother didn’t inform her that somebody was coming over.
“Well, you don’t have to tell them that he’s here,” the girl said. Michelle was immediately alarmed when the girl mentioned a ‘he.’ Although she tends to be a bit lax as a babysitter, Michelle wasn’t going to let an unknown man come into the house.
“Girl, who is he?” Michelle asked the child as she looked into the peephole. That’s when she saw a grown man outside the house. The babysitter’s mind raced, and she was concerned that the girl was speaking to a strange, adult man. Some girls might think they’re in control when they get into a relationship with a significantly older man, but it could easily put them in a dangerous predicament. Not to mention, Michelle said the visit happened in the evening, making it even more unsettling.
When Michelle opened the door, she said the girl’s face “lit up like a Christmas tree.” The man’s face lit up too. Michelle was observing the two, and before she could say something, the girl said, “Dad!” The babysitter wasn’t clued in on the family history.
Did the babysitter let the ‘dad’ in?
Despite the seemingly happy reunion, Michelle asked the man if he had let the parents know he was coming over. The girl ignored Michelle and told her supposed dad to enter the house, but Michelle didn’t want to let him in just yet. It seemed that the man didn’t want to go in either and told the girl to come out of the house.
Michelle asked him again if he was allowed to be around the house, and he gave a non-committal response. “I just want to see my daughter,” he said. Michelle acquiesced and gave him roughly fifteen minutes with the girl. The door was open, but she stepped away for a moment. When she came back and told the man to leave, the girl got upset.
“Baby, that man gotta go,” Michelle insisted. The girl, in frustration, suggested that Michelle could leave and the man could take over to watch. Again, the babysitter said no, and the girl shared one last hug with the dad.
The man had a restraining order
“I don’t want you to go! I don’t know why my mom don’t want you here,” the girl said. At that point, she was sulking, and the man had to leave. Michelle felt bad about the situation, and the girl was stomping through the house for the rest of the night.
When the parents got home, Michelle explained that the ten-year-old girl’s father dropped by. She observed the mother get upset, her eyes cutting quickly to her daughter. Michelle clarified that she didn’t let the man in, and the mother didn’t blame her.
“You did right, and she did wrong,” the mother said. When she told her daughter to go to bed, the mother told Michelle about the girl’s father. The mother claimed that she has a restraining order against the man, and that he found out where she lives through Google.
“I left him because he was very abusive to me,” the mother explained. She also alleged that her ex beat her while she was pregnant with the ten-year-old. After she left the man, her now-husband had even hired an undercover officer to be a bodyguard for her safety.
Although her daughter was happy to see him, the mother disclosed that she hasn’t told the girl about the abuse she suffered yet. Some stories take time to tell, but at the very least, nothing tragic happened that Saturday night while Michelle was around.
