What with MineCon and the Minecraft 1.0.0 release this weekend, Minecraft has been getting a surge of attention unlike it ever has before. Throughout its history, Minecraft has benefited from (and pretty much relied on) word-of-mouth buzz. I remember hearing about the free weekend on podcasts, and then the beta release from my friends, and then I finally picked up a copy myself. Now, it feels like Minecraft is a household name, but is it? If so, when did it happen?
