Netflix’s intense 100-minute action thriller from Taylor Sheridan and Jon Bernthal officially smashes all streaming records

Netflix has found a new audience for Those Who Wish Me Dead, the 2021 action thriller directed by Taylor Sheridan and starring Jon Bernthal. The 100-minute movie has climbed Netflix’s charts more than five years after its original release, giving the thriller a second life on the streaming service.

According to Netflix’s official Top 10 data, Those Who Wish Me Dead ranked No. 5 among the service’s most-watched English language movies worldwide for the week of Sept. 7 through Sept. 13. The movie recorded 4.3 million views and 7.2 million hours watched during that period, with its average viewing time matching its roughly 100-minute runtime.

The movie’s resurgence comes during a particularly busy year for Bernthal, who has returned to Marvel as Frank Castle and appeared in major 2026 releases including The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sheridan has also continued to expand his television empire with series including Landman, Tulsa King and The Madison, giving audiences another reason to revisit one of his earlier feature films.

Those Who Wish Me Dead has found a second life on Netflix

Those Who Wish Me Dead focuses on Hannah Faber (Angelina Jolie), a Montana smokejumper who becomes responsible for protecting Connor (Finn Little), a young boy who has witnessed a murder. Two assassins, played by Nicholas Hoult and Aidan Gillen, pursue Connor through the wilderness while a wildfire creates another threat for the pair.

Sheridan directed the movie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Michael Koryta and Charles Leavitt. The film also features Bernthal as Ethan Sawyer, a local sheriff who becomes involved in the effort to protect Connor.

The movie originally arrived in 2021 during Warner Bros.’ simultaneous theatrical and HBO Max release strategy. It earned about $23.5 million worldwide during its theatrical run, according to Box Office Mojo, making its current performance on Netflix a notable second wind for the thriller.

Netflix’s current numbers show that the movie’s audience has grown well beyond its original theatrical run. Its 4.3 million views during the latest reporting week put it among the service’s most-watched English language movies globally, demonstrating how older releases can find a new audience after moving into a streaming catalog.

Taylor Sheridan’s early movies are getting another look

The Netflix resurgence also shifts focus toward the feature film work Sheridan did before Yellowstone turned him into one of television’s most recognizable creators. Sheridan wrote Sicario and Hell or High Water before moving further into directing with Wind River and Those Who Wish Me Dead.

Bernthal has become a prominent part of several major 2026 projects, bringing renewed attention to earlier performances that audiences may have missed when they were first released. Those Who Wish Me Dead is now streaming on Netflix, where its current chart run has introduced Sheridan’s thriller to a new audience more than five years after its original release.
