Phone store staff ghosts Missouri customer over battery swap request, wastes half an hour just to kick her out: ‘All that for WHATTTTT?’
She should’ve walked out way earlier.

A Missouri woman’s visit to her phone service provider turned disastrous after staff reportedly spent over thirty minutes deflecting her request for a battery replacement. That too, only to direct her to a different store at the end.
Content creator Chelsey Starr (@chelsey_starr) recounted the frustrating experience in a TikTok reenactment that has drawn over 30,000 views. She explained that she visited her local service provider to find out why her device was overheating and rapidly losing its charge. As a hospitality worker, Starr noted that poor customer service interactions are particularly grating to her.
Rather than running hardware diagnostics or checking inventory for parts, the floor staff allegedly pushed her toward an unwanted device upgrade. When Starr refused, they reportedly made her wait through an employee’s meal break, only to send her away without a resolution.
The phone store staff bombarded Starr with unwanted upgrade pitches
According to Starr, the exchange began with a worker telling her they’re busy before asking what brought her in. When Starr explained that her handset was overheating and running out of battery quickly, the employee bypassed repair inquiries to ask, “So you just want an upgrade?”
Starr clarified that she was not interested in financing a new handset and preferred to replace the battery instead. The representative pushed back, questioning why she would not simply upgrade. To this, Starr explained that she had not paid off the current device and did not wish to spend extra money.
Eventually, the worker looked at her phone and conceded that the battery appeared worn out. But instead of offering a solution, she directed Starr to sit down and locate her account and insurance documentation independently on her own phone.
Starr politely asked if the staff could look up the profile on the store terminal because she has never signed into the app. However, the employee coldly replied that doing so was “not really convenient” for her.
The staff took a lunch break while Starr kept waiting
Starr complied with the worker’s request and said she spent the next fifteen minutes navigating the carrier’s mobile application to locate the required policy details. During that time, a second representative reportedly emerged from the backroom and asked the first employee if anyone needed assistance on the floor.
Surprisingly, the first worker suggested he could either check on Starr or proceed to take his scheduled lunch break. The second employee then approached Starr to ask about her issue and listened to her describe the battery failure. But right after, he allegedly walked out of the showroom to take his break without offering assistance.
After waiting another fifteen minutes for the representative to return, Starr was informed that the branch did not handle battery replacements on site. They reportedly told her that she would need to visit an entirely separate retail location to service the device.
“They let me sit there until that man came back from f****** lunch when there was two other f****** employees that could’ve helped me! I wait 15 minutes for that dude to come back from his break just to tell me to go to a different store to have my battery replaced.”
It’s not uncommon for carrier locations to prioritize sales commissions over technical repairs. But Starr’s frustration seems valid if the thirty-minute detour really yielded no solutions. As she questioned in her caption, “All that for WHATTTTT?” If the store didn’t offer replacements, they could’ve sent her away right after she requested one. But making her wait only to leave her with the same malfunctioning handset she entered with sounds wild.
