Tiktoker finds a woman unconscious on the sidewalk and calls an ambulance. Then she finds out what the woman’s friends allegedly did before vanishing

Don't trust a party friend.

Laila Hakim (@ulovelailahakim) shared a story on TikTok about a time when she ended up as the only advocate for a woman who was in no condition to get help on her own. The text over her video at the beginning says, “Why I don’t believe in ‘party friends.'”

To begin, Laila explained that party friends are people you know, but you don’t necessarily trust them like you would a normal friend. However, they’re the type of friends you’re willing to go out with for a night on the town. After seeing a group of party friends leave a woman to essentially die, Laila doesn’t believe in the concept of party friends at all.

Laila found an unconscious woman and tried to help

From the story, it seems that the woman’s friends were in the area around her when Laila came into the picture. However, they weren’t exactly doing anything to help the woman, whose name Laila would never end up learning. Instead, they believed that Laila was overreacting and that she shouldn’t be involving herself because she didn’t know the unconscious woman, and they did.

Well, Laila didn’t think that way. She saw a woman who was blacked out and throwing up, unable to even tell Laila her name. Because of her condition, Laila called 9-1-1 for help, and luckily she didn’t get an AI operator like this man in Atlanta did.

Laila stayed with the woman while her friends left. However, that friend group took the woman’s phone with them as they left, despite Laila’s attempts to get them to return it. By the time emergency services arrived, it was just Laila and the woman.

Paramedics wanted Laila to call an Uber instead

The ordeal didn’t end when paramedics arrived, as Laila recalls them being mad at her for calling them for the woman, saying that she should just get an Uber to get the woman home. While some Ubers will kick out passengers for not giving their name, Laila is certain that no Uber will take a passenger who keeps throwing up. Plus, she doesn’t know who the woman is or where she lives.

Eventually, Laila is able to convince the paramedics that the woman’s condition is bad enough to require a trip to the hospital. With the woman in the hands of the paramedics and on the way to the hospital in an ambulance, Laila’s role in the story is over, but the event stuck with her.

She remembers screaming at the woman’s friends when they were leaving that they’re terrible friends, and she said at the end of the video that she never learned what happened after. All she can do is hope that the woman is okay and got the help she needed in time.

Then, just in case any of the woman’s party friends happened to stumble upon her video, Laila ended her story with some choice words for them.

Leaving somebody while they’re puking could result in death

The woman Laila stayed with could’ve been in a dangerous situation if she was left alone, and she could’ve even died. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, there are about 178,000 alcohol-related deaths in the United States each year.

In the case of the woman Laila was with, she would’ve been at an increased risk of aspirating her own puke, which basically means she breathed it in and got some in her lungs. While this can lead to infections like pneumonia, it can also lead to death if the affected person is in a position where they can’t expel the puke, which they are at risk of choking on.

This is why it’s recommended to put somebody who’s vomiting while blacked out or unconscious on their side and make sure their airway is clear as you get help. Laila checked the woman’s pulse, stayed with her, and called EMS for her; if she hadn’t, then the woman might not have survived.
