Vancouver Man returns from Universal Studios in LA, then helps a real-life knife victim escape: ‘felt like I was at an actual movie set’
Sweet Escape

After a weekend trip to Los Angeles, Robin Nuber returned to his home in British Columbia, near Vancouver, and found himself caught up in the aftermath of what appeared to be a road-rage incident, CBC reported. He likened it to an “action movie,” noting that one man chased another with a knife and that Nuber stepped in to save the victim as he clung to his car door.
CBC reported that Nuber was driving to a photo shoot in Redwood Park, Surrey, when he saw the man wielding a knife climb onto a pickup truck and search for the other man, who had run toward his Tesla. Video footage, apparently recorded by Nuber and shared on social media, shows him reversing his car as the victim runs toward him. The knife-wielding man also follows Nuber’s car, but remains at a distance as Nuber backs away.
The footage shows Nuber repeatedly reassuring the man to “hang on.” It ends with the two having moved some distance from the attacker, as Nuber asks the man to get into his car. Recounting the incident, Nuber told CBC, “The guy basically ended up hanging onto my car and then being kind of dangled underneath the door for about 100 feet. I think I dragged him just to get him away from the guy and then eventually he kind of begged me to stop the car so he could get inside because he was obviously getting road rash.”
It was a whole experience for Nuber
Nuber’s return from LA, one of the most popular filming locations, made such an impression on him that he began drawing parallels between film and the real-life incident he was experiencing. According to CBC, Nuber said, “I just got back, so I literally felt like I was at Universal Studios where they do the staged remakes of movies, and everything’s kind of like an action movie.” He added, “It felt like I was at an actual movie set, but nope, it was not. It was very real.”
However, despite Nuber’s adrenaline-fueled, movie-like experience, the victim was not unharmed. The source states that Nuber reported the man sustained multiple injuries, including a bloody mouth, a gouged right eye, and cuts to one arm.
The climax
According to CBC, Surrey police arrested the man with the knife. When the incident came to light in September, the 37-year-old faced multiple charges, including assault with a weapon, criminal harassment, and uttering threats, and remained in custody.
Surrey police said in a statement that the victim “attempted to drive away in his Ford pickup truck” when the “suspect drove his Jeep Wrangler into it.” They added, “The victim then ran from the truck as the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and chased after him.” Regarding Nuber’s role in the incident, they said, “Fortunately, a nearby witness driving a Tesla provided the victim safety until SPS officers arrived.”
