‘Call the cops!’: Uber driver goes viral after telling woman to get out for refusing to give her name

That's one way to get a one star Uber rating

An Uber driver who declined a trip after his rider gave him attitude has received support from the internet, demonstrating why it’s important to treat everyone with respect. A video taken from inside the vehicle showed the tense verbal confrontation between the pair.

In the video, the female passenger is seen entering the vehicle; the driver then asks for her name, but she seems to mishear (or possibly intentionally tries to avoid the question), as she instead tells him where she’s going. When the Uber driver asks for her name again, she snaps, shouting at him, “The man just ordered the damn Uber; can you call him then?”

The driver asks her once again what her name is; the question is pretty standard and avoids potentially dangerous mix-ups. However, his question prompts her to yell even more aggressively. After a moment of calm, the driver turns around and tells her, “Get out of the car, please.” The woman immediately refuses despite the man’s threats to call the cops on her. “Then call the cops!” she goads. “The money was spent on it.”

The woman tries to explain that the Uber was called by a man, not by her, although she never gives the man’s name. She then calls the person who ordered the Uber to explain the situation to him.

The woman refused to get out of the Uber

The person on the other end of the phone can be heard asking the Uber driver to “please take her back home,” but the driver remains silent. Despite this, the woman continues to insist that she won’t get out of the car, and the video ends with the Uber driver calling the cops. Drivers have the right to end a ride at any point according to Uber, so the driver was technically doing nothing wrong.

It’s not clear what happened next, but people on the internet were pretty unanimous in agreeing with the Uber driver. “Getting into someone’s private property with an attitude is crazy,” a comment from one X account reads. Another added that “The driver is actually doing her a favor by providing consequences for poor behavior. She obviously needs more of that in her life. Entitlement is not a virtue.”

Some theorized that the woman became defensive because she did not know the name of the man who booked the Uber for her.

While some people believe that they can talk to people any way they want, the Uber driver seems to have earned the respect of the internet by standing up for himself. Viewers determined that the woman’s first mistake was her unnecessary rudeness towards the driver. The driver hadn’t been rude or inappropriate towards her, but was met with attitude.
