October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Comic Fusion in New Jersey is continuing their yearly Superhero Weekend tradition to help raise funds for a local charity. See how you can help and bid on some amazing comic art from your favorite creators.
Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, heroes will flock to Flemington, New Jersey’s Comic Fusion to help raise awareness and money for the domestic violence organization SAFE in Hunterdon. Some will be in costume, some in plain clothes, and some will be drawing their hearts out over the course of the event. There will be in-store raffles, but there’s also a silent auction (which ends online October 4th at midnight eastern time but will continue at the shop) featuring original art from creators like Charles Wilson III, David Mack, Ethan Van Sciver, Franco, Neal Adams, and more. “Super Hero Weekend is a celebration of the characters we grew up with and to remember the lessons comics teach us so that we can make our community better and safer,” Stacy Korn, co-owner of Comic Fusion, told NJ.com. “We are excited this year to continue to partner with other businesses in the community to make this a wonderful weekend of family fun. Each year the event evolves, and this year at our new location in Turntable Junction, we hope it will be bigger than ever.”

There’s also going to be face painting and cupcakes, so I’m extra sad I won’t be able to make it out this year.
“The 2014 Superhero Weekend for domestic violence is more crucial than ever. We’re able to address this important issue that has surfaced in entertainment due to cases throughout sports and pop culture where the public wants to see better action taken,” event planner Amber Love told The Mary Sue. “The comics community has plenty of creators and fans that want to be like the heroes we read about in comics, and this is a chance to do that.”
