Police arrest 28-year-old UK man after chase, then post a GTA-style TikTok to mock his inability to play GTA 6: ‘Now Jack’s in prison for release day’

The caption says the man was sentenced to 14 months in prison and jokes that he will now miss the launch of the game.

Police in Derbyshire, England, turned a real car chase into a Grand Theft Auto style video and joked that the driver will miss GTA 6. According to IGN, the Derbyshire constabulary shared the clip in a TikTok post. Officers are seen following a black van along residential roads while “Flower in a Hurricane,” a track from the game’s soundtrack, plays.

The editor laid the game’s on-screen interface over the footage, including a star-style wanted rating and a small map that tracks the van. The report states officers eventually blocked the vehicle and made an arrest, and that the clip is going viral.

The caption names Ripley as the location. The report states the man received a 14-month prison term after “admitting dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, drug-driving, and cannabis possession.” The location, sentence and charges come from the force’s post as relayed by the report and could not be verified independently.

The caption references the GTA 6 release

“Could’ve just waited a few more weeks for GTA 6 to drop…” the constabulary wrote in the caption. It added, “Thirteen years is a long time to wait for the game, but nothing excuses driving like this in real life.” The caption also criticizes cutting corners at speed on residential roads in daylight, alongside pedestrians and passing traffic. It tells viewers to “save that stuff for the streets of Vice City.”

The report does not state how the 14 months were divided among the offences. In England and Wales, the Sentencing Council lists a statutory maximum of two years in custody for dangerous driving under the Road Traffic Act 1988. It also lists obligatory disqualification of at least one year with an extended re-test. The offence is triable either way, meaning it can go before magistrates or the Crown Court.

For driving while disqualified, the same body lists a maximum of six months and an unlimited fine, either or both. The Highway Code’s penalties annex lists the same two maximums. It describes disqualification as obligatory for dangerous driving and discretionary for driving while disqualified. Those figures are maximums for each offence, not the terms handed down in this case.

The report adds that Rockstar has worked with Miami on a Vice City theme and with the Miami Heat on GTA 6 jerseys. The report also states Xbox revealed an alligator-shaped Series X console that players can try to win in a sweepstakes. It adds that many fans plan to take time off to play, while others plan to call in sick on launch day.

TikTok has played a part in other police cases, including one in Connecticut where a TikTok comment led to an arrest. Another story traced the Florida stories behind the GTA 6 trailer. Rockstar’s official page lists Grand Theft Auto VI as coming November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
