Man sits in front of family waiting to board flight at Florida airport. Then he allegedly starts urinating on the mother and son

A man allegedly turned the waiting area into his personal bathroom.

Everyone has experienced a bathroom emergency at some point, and sometimes the urgency can drive people to resort to breaking into stores. One man, however, allegedly relieved himself directly in front of a family who were waiting to board their flight at a Florida airport.

The incident happened at around 11:38 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when 48-year-old Lawrence Kai Raben sat directly across from a family of three in the waiting area near Gate E6 inside Terminal 3 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, according to the arrest report filed by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. The family alleged that after some time, Raben then “unbuttoned his pants” and exposed his genitals to those in the area, including their seven-year-old son.

Raben, who was reportedly intoxicated, allegedly began “urinating in their direction.” Several other passengers in the vicinity were also witnesses to the act and were said to have quickly left the area to avoid Raben’s bodily fluid. The mother and son, however, were “struck” by the urine while the father was not, the arrest report said.

Motive behind Florida man’s alleged urine attack remains unclear

Raben, who is a resident of Fort Lauderdale, was subsequently arrested without incident. He is currently booked into the Broward County Main Jail on a $5,000 bond as of Thursday afternoon.

Raben is up against several charges, including three counts of indecent exposure, disorderly intoxication, and misdemeanor battery. He is also facing a battery charge for allegedly causing a person under 18 to have contact with bodily fluids, according to Local 12.

It remains unclear whether Raben was also waiting to board a flight from Florida or if he had flown into the airport prior to the incident. Although this isn’t the first time someone urinated publicly while traveling, the motive behind Raben’s alleged bathroom break in the waiting area is yet to be detailed by police.

Raben also had a run-in with the law in the past. According to The Smoking Gun, Raben, reportedly a father of two young boys, faced a domestic battery charge in 2011, to which he entered a no contest plea. At the time, he was sentenced to probation and had to complete an intervention program.

Meanwhile, a battery charge for causing a person under 18 to have contact with bodily fluids is a third-degree felony. It carries up to $5,000 in fines, up to five years on probation, and a maximum of five years in prison if found guilty. On the other hand, indecent exposure involving a minor faces a possibility of life in prison under Florida law.
