Texas man needs to use the bathroom around 4 a.m., so he crashes his car into a closed Kroger

Imagine needing to use the bathroom so badly that a locked grocery store becomes a personal challenge. Most people would just look for another restroom. One Texas man allegedly decided a closed Kroger was the answer and his car was the key to unlock it. 

At approximately 4:28 a.m. Sunday, police in Rosenberg, Texas, responded to a Kroger where a vehicle had crashed through multiple sliding doors. The 60-year-old man who drove the vehicle reportedly told officers he needed to use the restroom. Unfortunately for the store, its locked entrance was standing between him and his destination.

According to FOX 26, citing the Rosenberg Police Department, the man was arrested and charged with criminal mischief after the crash caused extensive damage to the entrance. Whether he actually made it to the bathroom remains unknown. Meanwhile, the store had a car where its front doors used to be. Perhaps the store was mistaken for a drive-thru restroom?

Did the locked door seem like a mere suggestion? 

The man reportedly arrived at the Kroger in the early hours of Sunday morning, only to discover that the business was closed. Under ordinary circumstances, that would be the cue to find somewhere else to answer nature’s call.

Instead, police say he drove his vehicle through the entrance, breaking through multiple sets of sliding doors before coming to a stop inside the store. Photos shared by the Rosenberg Police Department showed the car parked beyond the substantially shattered entrance. It was a rather dramatic solution to a problem that generally requires locating an open restroom, not rearranging a supermarket’s architecture before the sun comes up.

The department hasn’t publicly clarified that part of the story. Given the circumstances, once the police arrived, perhaps nature decided to hang up and call again later.   

As it seems, grocery stores aren’t the only businesses to experience an extremely unconventional entrance. In Australia, two would-be jewel thieves once tunneled through a bathroom wall and ended up inside a KFC instead. 

The nearby alternatives make this even stranger

Here’s where the story takes another turn full of question marks. The Kroger reportedly sits directly beside a hotel, and a gas station operating 24 hours a day is about a minute away. There’s no confirmation that either business would have let him use its restroom. Still, the surrounding options make his decision to drive into a locked grocery store even more baffling. 

Kroger has also appeared in a very different bathroom emergency. An Ohio woman previously described a late-night emergency after eating sushi from Kroger. At least that incident didn’t involve anyone driving through the entrance.

The bathroom emergency may have been real, but driving through a set of locked doors created an entirely different problem. A criminal mischief charge is quite a souvenir to bring home from a 4 a.m. bathroom hunt.
