GOG Is Handing Out Free Copies of Fallout for the Next 48 Hours

Now I’m sure some of you youngins are quick to equate the name Fallout with Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas. This is a bad thing to do. Stop it. Stop it right now. Right now, as it turns out, is a particularly great time to stop it because GOG is dishing out free copies of Fallout, the original, for the next 48 hours. If you’ve never played it before, you have no excuse to not play it. If you have, you have no excuse to not do it again.

The giveaway serves two purposes. First, it’s a thank you gift to existing GOG customers. Second, it’s a way to draw in some new ones in the wake of GOG’s relaunch as GOG where the name is no long an acronym for “Good Old Games” but rather a name in its own right. GOG is starting a new campaign to sell current and new PC games along with the classics they built their name on. That being the case, giving away Fallout is a horrible idea, because no one who downloads it will need another game for months. GOG games are DRM-free, it’s worth pointing out, so once you download your copy, you’ll be able to play it even past the giveaway window, which believe me, you are going to want to.

For those of you out there who were introduced to a 3D franchise, the original Fallout may not seem like your cup of tea right off the bat. Trust me, it is. Fallout is amazing for it’s ability to stay fresh and provide incredibly addictive and expansive gameplay even in its old package. Fallout is an absolute classic, and good on GOG for picking such a wonderful game to throw around free copies of. Now what are you waiting for? Go get it. NOW!
