Fresno mayor increases police patrols and street lighting to stop local crime. One week later, 10 rounds are fired during a rap video shoot

That's not part of the video's script.

A rap video was being filmed at an Airbnb in Fresno, California, when gunshots were fired in front of the home early Sunday morning, according to the New York Post. The event happened near Fulton Street and Dennett Avenue, with an estimate that at least 10 rounds were fired.

The Fresno Police Department released a statement on their Facebook page saying, “Officers determined a studio in the area was used to film a rap video. Several individuals who were denied entry left the location and fired multiple rounds, striking the exterior of a business on Fulton Ave. It appears there was an exchange of gunfire.”

Police also said no injuries have been reported related to the incident and that the investigation is ongoing.

Fresno recently introduced safety measures for the Tower District

The Airbnb used for filming the music video is located in Fresno’s Tower District, which had new safety measures implemented by the mayor and city council on October 21. According to FresnoLand, these measures came after a nightclub shooting on the weekend of October 17. Residents responded to the shooting with questions about why increased police presence in the area hadn’t lowered the rate of crime.

As for the measures that the mayor announced, they included a curfew for minors, cracking down on nightclubs that have patios that are open late, and adding more streetlights to the area.

Residents question how the city will follow through on the measures

In the same article from FresnoLand, multiple residents are reported to have questioned how Fresno officials will follow through on implementing the safety measures, and some also shared concerns that they hope the city won’t overreact and end up putting the Tower District in a position where people stop visiting. Perhaps adding to the residents’ concern, there have been more shootings this year compared to the number of shootings in 2025 at the same time of the year.

Shootings are unfortunately common in Fresno and beyond the city as well, and Stephen King pointed out that multiple presidents have been shot, but Congress hasn’t passed a gun law to address shooting incidents, which aren’t limited to presidents. Louisiana had a string of shootings in April, including one at the Baton Rouge Mall of Louisiana that, like in the case in Fresno, appeared to originate from a disagreement between two groups.

With the risk of being in a shooting is unpredictable, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings and avoid confrontations when possible.
