A problem she couldn't sweat out.

Woman told to lose weight until they found a cyst in her ovary. It grew to 18 pounds: 'Honestly, I think I'm some kind of superhuman'

Michella Giunta (@michelle.giunta) told Instagram about her ovarian cyst, which weighed 18lbs. She alleged that doctors told her to exercise and lose weight until they found out about the cyst.

“You have been going to doctors for years complaining about your abdomen. They told you to drink water, work out, and take laxatives. So, at this point, you don’t question anything and assume that this is your body type,” Giunta alleged on Instagram. In the video she posted, she said she took it to check gym progress. She was still unaware of her condition. Giunta claimed that before finding out about her massive cyst, she had been lifting for four years. She added that since January, she lost 20lbs, but still had a big stomach.

Then, she showed the CT scan of her ovarian cyst, which she claimed weighed a total of 18lbs. She added, “I have been lifting for years, fighting this tumor. So, it’s just really squished in there, but unfortunately, it’s real.” Giunta said she had been feeling nine months pregnant for years without working out, not knowing that she was carrying a tumor. “So, honestly, I think I’m some kind of superhuman,” she said.

She showed the CT scan and even threw a gender reveal for her cyst

Giunta went into detail about her 18lb ovarian cyst in a separate Instagram video. She pointed to a thin lining above her stomach. She explained, “From what I can tell, those are my organs.” Her organs were squished on top of the massive cyst. Giunta motioned to the mass occupying her entire abdomen up to her ribcage. She said the cyst took up all of it. It seems that while this other woman was having trouble with her organs falling out of her body, Giunta experienced the opposite, with her organs compressed at the top.

“As you can see, I’m literally just 20% tumor,” Giunta said. She clarified that the tumor also took up 20% of her body weight. Although she clarified that she isn’t a medical technician, she continued to show scans of her cyst from different angles. From the side, the cyst is also compressing her organs behind it. Giunta claimed that her cyst measures 35cm long, 24cm wide, and 14cm thick.

“It is the size of a massive watermelon,” she said. Externally, she said that the reason her ribcage was mildly flaring out was that her organs were all above. Despite her unusual situation, Giunta even managed to poke fun at her condition by hosting a “gender reveal” for her cyst. She told the bakery to choose her gender as part of the gag, and they said she was having “twins.”

“To be fair, my tumor is pushing up my organs as much as a full-term pregnancy with twins. So, this is actually very fitting,” Giunta said of the gender reveal cake. Giunta also shared that theoretically, twins are her worst nightmare. But for another woman who is due to have twins, dealing with the American healthcare system has been her source of frustration.

She got it removed

“They did have to remove my left fallopian tube and my left ovary. And apparently, they found endometriosis all over my stomach, which is alarming to me because I am in no pain at all,” Giunta said. Nevertheless, she said that her surgery went without complication. Despite finding out about her endometriosis, Giunta also said she had never experienced painful periods.

“My cyst did contain over eight liters of fluid. It was a little bit over 18lbs,” she added. Giunta explained that they had to remove her cyst laparoscopically, cutting her cyst off in sections before removing it entirely from her body. When Giunta weighed herself post-op, she said she lost 20lbs.
