LA woman hopes aloud she won’t run into her ex at Costco. Then comes a run-in by the rotisserie chickens: ‘I get berated for 20 minutes’

The universe is funny.

An LA woman’s Costco run reportedly turned into a public confrontation after she said out loud that she hoped not to run into her ex, only for him to show up moments later. The incident happened to Los Angeles creator Reagan (@reaganewman), who said she had spent the week missing him before the errand.

Taking to her viewers in a video that quickly drew thousands of views, Reagan recounted how she got a sudden wave of post-breakup nostalgia five months after separation. But little did she know that an awkward, high-tension clash in the warehouse aisles was waiting for her right after.

Reagan’s description of the confrontation is her own, and her ex’s side of the story couldn’t be verified. By her account, the run-in ended in the rotisserie chicken aisle, with her best friend stepping in.

A wave of post-breakup nostalgia set the stage for an unexpected clash

Reagan explained that she was roughly five months removed from a turbulent split that had taken a substantial emotional toll on her earlier in the year. While she had returned to casual dating, a sudden surge of heaviness prompted her to spend the week journaling and reflecting on the loss that comes with a familiar relationship.

Reagan said she knew the relationship no longer worked, and admitted she thought about texting him before deciding against it to protect her healing. “We can look back with rose-colored lenses and romanticize what was once there, while also fully knowing that does not exist anymore, on any field, on any plane,” Reagan said. Old flames resurfacing is familiar territory online, as one London woman showed when her first ex messaged her after 10 years.

The internal dialogue became spoken reality during the car ride. On the way to Costco with a close friend, Reagan said out loud that she hoped they would not cross paths with her ex. Moments later, she said, they spotted his car pulling into the parking lot.

A heated confrontation erupted in the crowded wholesale aisles

Reagan said the run-in turned hostile once they were inside. Rather than exchanging brief pleasantries and walking away, she said the two ended up in a prolonged confrontation.

“Long story short, we have a run-in. It’s not pretty,” Reagan said. “I stand and I get berated for 20 minutes, and my best friend gets up to his face in the rotisserie chicken aisle of all places. I have to laugh or else I will break down.”

Reagan said she now sees the confrontation as a blunt final chapter on the relationship. She framed it as a sign she was meant to move on.

“I genuinely think it was a harsh slap-in-the-face reminder from God, or the universe, or whoever you believe in,” she said. “For me, it’s God: ‘Reagan, you do not need this person in your life anymore. You are good. You are strong, you are good.’”

Reagan’s clip joins a long line of viral stories about exes turning up at unexpected moments, including one bad first date that ended with a woman getting her date’s ex to show up at the bar. For Reagan, the Costco run left her certain she no longer needs him in her life.
