All TARDISes Must Fly: Maisie Williams to Guest Star on Doctor Who Season 9

In a press release earlier today, the BBC announced that Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams has "set foot on the Doctor Who TARDIS" (judging from that picture above, she felt right at home) to begin filming a guest role.

Perhaps Moffat’s newfound respect for fanfic has inspired him to write a Game of Thrones/Doctor Who crossover of his own? In a press release earlier today, the BBC announced that Thrones star Maisie Williams has “set foot on the Doctor Who TARDIS” (judging from that picture above, she felt right at home) to begin filming a guest role. Williams says of her first day on set,

I’m so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British Culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.

Moffat is also chuffed to have Arya Stark on board:

We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.

The press release also hints at what fans can expect from the upcoming season (specifically the episode penned by Catherine Tregenna, Doctor Who’s first female writer since 2008 and only the fifth-ever woman to write for the show):

Bursting with drama, wit and heart, the show continues filming with two period adventures – ‘The Girl Who Died’ written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat, and ‘The Woman Who Lived’ by Catherine Tregenna. Starring Peter Capaldi (The Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald), the duo continue to time travel through epic adventures directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark).

Comedian and actor Rufus Hound (Cucumber) also joins the guest cast alongside Tom Stourton, Ariyon Bakare, Simon Lipkin, Ian Conningham, Murray McArthur, Barnaby Kay, John Voce, and Struan Rodger.

Based off those episode titles, care to speculate on what Maisie’s role on the show might entail? And do these new developments make you any more excited for Season 9?
