Superhero Movie Rumor Round-up: Lex Luthor and The Avengers are Getting “New Looks”

Not in the same film, though. That's be weird.

Whether you’re gathering a highly trained team of superheroes or stealing as many as 40 cakes (and that’s terrible), choosing the right look for yourself is an important part of the process. The Internet’s been awash with a lot of costuming rumors for both Age of Ultron and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so let’s dive right in, shall we? Spoilery things all around, of course. You’ve been warned!

First up, more reports of Lex Luthor for the the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice have surfaced. Not only does he reportedly have “spastic mannerisms, like a 20-something guy that pounds energy drinks all day,” but he’s also apparently got hair. Hair! And not the type you would expect a character played by Jesse Eisenberg to have: rather than his trademark brunette curls, it’s actually “a bit longer, kind of loose and wavy, and it’s dirty blonde.”

So… kind of like this?

“Surf’s up, Lexoli!”

One thing we do know about Lex Luthor, though–his helicopter is pretty dang sweet, as evidenced by this surreptitiously-shot set photo.

The second batch of superhero costuming news comes to us from JoBlo by way of Pajiba, and primarily deal with how our favorite Marvel heroes are going to be dressing for their throw down with Ultron. We’ve already seen images of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, as well as some adorable glimpses of Hawkeye’s fancy new winter coat (he just looks so warm and snuggly, guys), but here are the rumors we could scrounge up about the rest of the new get-ups:

  • For Black Widow, a more “TRON-style” suit that has “blue lights and electricity” and will shock people when she hits them. Guess she got tired of people giving her lip for those dinky little dual pistols, huh?
  • Hulk’s purple pants are back, and they’ll be capable of rapidly expanding and shrinking with his body. Quick, everybody start writing fanfiction about Tony inventing Bruce special expando-pants now!
  • The Mark 43 version of the Iron Man armor will be “less gold on it than Iron Man 3, but still more than in The Avengers.” Insert your “Goldilocks” jokes here.
  • All the Avengers’ outfits are going to have that circle with the A on ’em, even the Hulk’s expando-pants. (We’re going to make it catch on, okay?)
  • Speaking of which, the Avengers tower is going to be huuuuge, probably to make room for a sleeker and less military-inspired Quinjet.
  • Both Vision and Ultron will have the “fully articulated” faces of Paul Bettany and James Spader, respectively. Vision will be decked out in a combination of metallic green, red, and gold; Ultron will reportedly look kind of like the Destroyer from Thor, but silver and with a red “Balrog”-like glow effect underneath.

So basically, all of that sounds amazing and I cannot wait until 2015 so I can put it all in my eyeballs posthaste. Although, might we suggest that all the Avengers get their own thematically appropriate casual wear as well, to really complete their wardrobe? Here, it looks like Her Universe (who just announced a new line of Marvel gear) is working on just the thing for Natasha:
