After the move to evict her from her home of 38 years, Stevie Wonder’s ex claims he’s hiding his true side: ‘A gaslighter and a manipulator’

‘There is no talking to this fool.’

Stevie Wonder is currently seeking a court order to evict his former fiancée, Carmen Efferson, from a Hollywood Hills home where she has resided for 38 years. This legal action follows a dispute over property access that has escalated into a public conflict. According to PEOPLE, Efferson spoke out against the 76-year-old musician in an interview on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. She characterized the singer as someone who hides his true nature from the public.

Efferson did not hold back when describing her experience with the Grammy winner. She told the Daily Mail that she feels frustrated by the situation. Efferson stated, “He’s going to paint this like I am the one who is lying, and there is no talking to this fool.” She continued by sharing her perspective on his personal conduct.

“I’m so sick of someone like him always getting away with this s—,” she remarked. The accusations grew more specific during the conversation. She added, “Nobody wants to say this, but I know that he is a gaslighter and a manipulator.”

The disagreement centers on a property that has been home to Efferson since 1988

Efferson claims that the arrangement was based on a verbal agreement between the two. She explained her side of the story regarding how she ended up in the residence. “I didn’t even want the house at first — but he kept insisting,” she said. Efferson maintains, “I’ve never been a materialistic person, and I never asked for a house. But we came to an agreement, a verbal one, that this would be my house.”

Legal documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on October 22 tell a different story. The complaint confirms that a verbal agreement existed, which allowed Efferson to occupy the home for decades. However, the filing alleges that this agreement was breached during the summer.

Wonder’s legal team asserts that Efferson blocked mandatory insurance inspections. According to the records, a July 23 email informed Efferson that an inspector would arrive on July 30. The goal of this visit was to “conduct an inspection for the purposes of maintaining insurance coverage on the Property.”

The situation turned into a legal standoff shortly after that email was sent

The court filing claims that Efferson responded two days later, refusing to grant access. She reportedly told the attorneys that she was “feeling harassed” and clearly stated she did “not consent” to the inspection. A 30-day eviction notice was posted the very next day. Efferson did not vacate the premises, leading the legal team to describe her continued presence as “malicious.”

This conflict represents a major shift from the relationship the pair shared in the past. Wonder and Efferson dated on and off starting in the late 1980s. Their romantic history concluded around the same time she moved into the property.

Stevie Wonder, whose real name is Stevland Hardaway Morris, now contends that the home remains in his name. He points out that he has allowed her to live there rent-free for many years. This dynamic, while common in high-profile separations, rarely results in such public accusations.

Wonder’s legal team is now pursuing specific outcomes in court

They are asking for a “forfeiture” of the original verbal agreement that allowed Efferson to stay in the home. Additionally, they are requesting “reasonable attorney fees” and statutory damages. These damages are tied to what the complaint labels as the malicious possession of the residence.

According to Reality Tea, Efferson described her life as quiet until the recent legal filings surfaced. She claimed to be unaware of the impending eviction attempt until just last week. The mention of a verbal agreement makes it difficult to determine the legal reality of the situation. Verbal contracts are often hard to prove in court.

Efferson is determined to tell her side of the story despite the legal pressure. Wonder has remained focused on the formal complaint process through his attorneys. Both sides have made their positions clear.
