Woman says she’s facing eviction because she obeyed God’s order not to work: ‘This eviction will give glory to God’

"God told me I can have your couch."

Renters are usually given a notice of eviction for several reasons, including failure to pay rent, property damage, or violating lease terms. In most cases, money is a big factor that leads to a renter being without a home. But for one woman, she claimed that her eviction was part of God’s plan and that she was given a message not to work for her rent.

The incident was shared by Alexandria (@a.lxandriaa) in a video that has since amassed over two million views on TikTok. Alexandra, who described herself as someone “leading with vulnerability and love,” told viewers that she was getting evicted from the apartment she allegedly moved into just a month prior.

While most people cite typical reasons for eviction, Alexandria acknowledged that her own reason is something you don’t hear every day. “I’m getting evicted because I am being obedient to Jesus Christ,” Alexandria claimed in the video. “I know that sounds absolutely insane to some of you.”

Alexandria says she was ‘warned’ by God that her home was temporary

Alexandria went on to explain her situation further, telling viewers that she had been “in the wilderness” before God decided to put her in her current apartment with the orders to “rest” and not to “go looking for a job.” From her conversation with God, Alexandria claimed she knew she would not be staying at the apartment for long and knew an eviction was bound to come her way.

“Jesus Christ, tell me, ‘Don’t get comfortable. This is not where you’re gonna be forever,’” Alexandria said. Initially, the TikToker was in disbelief at that knowledge and even questioned God. “I thought He, maybe, would at least give me six months. But, no. He gave me just a month.”

Alexandria claimed that she was not sad or angry about the situation she was in because she was “warned” by God on her first night in the apartment. She would be leaving behind all the furniture to return to living in her car, and only taking what God told her to: her clothes and her puppy.

“This was just a place for me to rest because Jesus Christ will do that,” Alexandria said. “He knows how much you can take before you break.” While the situation is far from ideal, Alexandria chose to focus on the positive, telling viewers she was grateful for the time and space to regroup and get back on her feet before facing new challenges.

Alexandria, who’s unsure of what God’s plan for her is at the moment, and claimed that “this eviction will give glory to God,” then told viewers that they could donate to fund a place for her and her puppy to stay overnight at a hotel or an Airbnb. She later added in her caption. Viewers, however, were left in disbelief at Alexandria’s story and criticized the TikToker, alleging that she didn’t receive such a message from God.

Alexandria’s decision to allegedly not pay her rent called into question

“Wait Jesus told you not to pay your bills?” one commenter asked. “He ain’t told you nothing like that,” a second commenter wrote. A third questioned Alexandria’s faith, saying, “Faith without work is………….. homeless?”

Others responded to Alexandria’s video with sarcasm. “Can I have your couch????? God told me I can have your couch,” a comment read. One commenter was more straightforward, telling Alexandria, “Sista God told me the exact same thing when I got my new place ‘You won’t be here long, if you don’t pay these damn bills!!’”

Given today’s economy, it’s understandable that Alexandria might want to mentally take a break from work. Sometimes, even holding down three jobs isn’t enough to cover the bills.

Some, on the other hand, believe Alexandria was experiencing spiritual psychosis, a condition where an individual’s experiences spiritually become intense to the point where they begin to distort spiritual perceptions and reality, according to SaadMD. This condition can show in different ways, including hallucinations, delusions, and emotional disturbances.

In severe cases, spiritual psychosis can cause significant mental and emotional imbalance, leaving individuals unable to function properly in daily life, experience distress, or lose important relationships, according to the outlet. Without intervention, the individual is susceptible to mental health issues.

It is important to note, however, that the incident is solely from Alexandria’s perspective. It remains unclear whether the events actually happened. Likewise, it cannot be concluded that she is experiencing spiritual psychosis based solely on the information available.

Rather, her video raises the question of where to draw the line between real-life obligations and religious beliefs. At the end of the day, Alexandria wasn’t the only one affected by her eviction, as the landlord likely incurred financial losses as well.
