A day after Harmeet Dhillon resigns, Donald Trump ousts Susie Wiles from the White House: ‘…we’ve got to make moves’
Big changes.

Donald Trump announced on Friday, November 6, 2026, that Susie Wiles is leaving her role as White House Chief of Staff. This move marks a major change in his inner circle. It follows a string of departures from his administration. According to The Guardian, the announcement arrived just one day after Harmeet Dhillon resigned from her position. Dhillon served as the head of the civil rights division at the Department of Justice (DOJ). She is a known ally of the president.
Trump shared the news regarding Wiles on Truth Social. He also named Stephen Miller as her replacement. Miller is well known for his hardline stance on immigration. The New York Post states that the president told Ross Douthat in a CBS’ 60 Minutes interview on Friday about the decision. He said, “I wanted to make a change.” He added, “I think Susie’s done a very good job… Stephen’s been great and we’ve got to make moves.”
Wiles reportedly submitted her resignation on Thursday night. She described her time as Chief of Staff as “the honor of a lifetime.” She took pride in the work the team performed. Wiles added, “I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together, from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America first.”
Wiles has previously faced health challenges
The former Chief of Staff was diagnosed with breast cancer but announced she was cancer-free in September. Trump once stated that she would be with the administration for a long time. Wiles’ departure leaves the leadership team looking overwhelmingly male. Wiles was the first woman to hold the Chief of Staff position. Her exit follows several other high-profile departures of women from the administration.
Katie Zacharia was ousted as White House press secretary just five days after starting. Other notable departures include former Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem and former Attorney General Pam Bondi. Tulsi Gabbard reportedly resigned under pressure as the National Intelligence director. Kimberly Guilfoyle also left her post as Ambassador to Greece.
The timing of these changes is significant. The administration was recently hit by a blue wave in the midterm elections. Democrats now control both chambers of Congress. Harmeet Dhillon resigned amid speculation that Congress would launch investigations. There is concern that Democrats will use their majority to probe federal agencies.
The DOJ has faced accusations of being weaponized against political enemies. Other officials have resigned from the department as well. These include assistant attorney general for national security John Eisenberg. Jason Reding Quiñones also resigned. He was a key attorney who led inquiries into political rivals.
Only a few women remain in Trump’s cabinet
These include agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins and head of the Small Business Administration Kelly Loeffler. Natalie Harp continues to be a frequent presence by the president’s side. She is a political aide who has described Trump as her guardian and protector.
The shakeups may not end with Wiles. Trump suggested more changes are coming during the interview. The 60 Minutes interview was recorded at the White House on Friday morning. It took place just hours before the announcement about Wiles was made. Douthat asked if the president planned to fire anyone from his team. Trump confirmed his plans during the discussion.
The President told Douthat, “I do.” He added, “I’ll be making a few changes. I don’t want to mention who,” Trump said. He also expressed general support for his cabinet. “I love my Cabinet. I think they’re good, but I’ll be doing maybe a few changes,” he noted. Trump did not mention Wiles during the recording. He did express confidence in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth when Douthat asked about him.
The interview was produced by a team including Bari Weiss and Nick Bilton. It highlights a common reality of this era. News often breaks between the time an interview is recorded and when it actually airs. The network ran a clip of the sit-down on the evening news. Douthat discussed the experience with anchor Tony Dokoupil as well.
