Did the ‘TODAY’ Show Just Spoil a Cameo in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’?

It’s hard not to feel bad for TODAY’s Craig Melvin after an on-air blunder attracted tons of eyeballs. He accidentally revealed a big cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2.
Melvin had to apologize to one of his colleagues who will show up in Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep’s new movie. Jenna Bush Hager was left dumbfounded after he mentioned her name on live TV period from the looks of her response, it seems like he wasn’t supposed to be the one to give that good news. Especially on a live telecast. It led to a mildly tense moment on-screen.
“By the way, you know how that movie’s going to be good?” Melvin smiled for the camera. (h/t to PEOPLE for reporting this one.) “You know how I can tell? JBH is in it!”
Hager respond, “I don’t know that you were supposed to be the one to drop that bomb.” The probable best moment from the segment came from Savannah Guthrie. She just joked, “This is live. You can not tell Craig anything!”
After this wild on-air moment, I’m inclined to agree with Gunthrie. Melvin completely blew up Jenna Bush Hager’s spot there. He apologized, and told his coworker, “My bad!” But, tons of people on social media had already grabbed the clip and talked about the reveal. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is coming very soon and 20th Century has been ramping up the promo for this film. Although, I can’t imagine they expected that surprise.

I felt the blush bloom on my neck when Melvin asked, “I thought it was common knowledge?” To which, Al Roker quipped, “It is now!”
This little exchange highlights just how important a movie like The Devil Wears Prada 2 is to such a large section of the fan base. It has been basically 20 years since the first movie premiered. All those teen girls who watched the first movie in the early aughts are now women with lives and possibly children of their own.
Telling that story is such a huge responsibility for everyone involved. Hathaway and Meryl Streep included. Vogue sat down with the Miranda Priestly actress to talk about revisiting this world after such a long layover. Strep tried our best to answer such a big question. In their conversation she just kept coming back to the idea of responsibility. Whether keeping a small secret or holding the fate of all employees in your hands, it’s a lot to juggle.
People are ecstatic about The Devil Wears Prada 2, but there is pressure

Streep mused, “In terms of Miranda, and coming back to that character 20 years later, I did think honestly about Anna and tried to imagine what it was like to carry her responsibility and to be as interested in the world and curious as she must have to be.”
“That’s the key, I think, to being alive: Always breaking new water. Always breaking the waves. And we’re not done yet,” she added. “But the thing that’s fun about this character is that I was using my role models, different people that I know, and most of them are men. So that gave me some freedom too.”
Sounds like that’s not the only surprise we should expect. Although, you’ll excuse me if I avoid TODAY talking about any of the upcoming movies for the summer now.
