Star Trek: Discovery is almost upon us, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Check out the latest official cast photos, like the one above featuring First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). Photos of Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs), Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), Lt. Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Cadet Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Lt. Commander Saru (Doug Jones), Lt. Tyler (Shazad Latif), Ambassador Sarek (James Frain), L’Rell (Mary Chieffo) and T’Kuvma (Chris Obi) are below, featuring them in posed solo shots, as well as in stills from upcoming episodes.

I’ve gotta say, I’m digging the chill, gold-accented uniforms. They’re a natural progression from the Enterprise uniforms without looking quite so flight suit-y, which makes sense since Discovery takes place ninety years after Enterprise. You’ve gotta figure they’d streamline their fashion a bit in that time!

And yes, I’m into this look for the Klingons, and I’m especially happy that a female Klingon seems to be featuring so prominently so soon.

Lastly, I really dug 2009’s Star Trek, even if the second Kelvin-universe foray Into Darkness was less-than-stellar. So, I’m enjoying the look of these photos, lens flares and all. I just hope that they stay in Star Trek territory and don’t go Into Darkness-level, let’s-use-flashlights-to-bounce-even-more-light-off-the-camera bananas.

Female leads of color, a gay science officer, a new alien species being introduced to the Star Trek universe? The more I see and hear about Discovery, the more willing I am to splurge on the CBS All Access subscription. At least, long enough to be able to check out the first season.

How about you? Will you be watching Star Trek: Discovery when it premieres Sunday, September 24th?
