Here’s Harrison Ford, in a quite warm and friendly mood (!), hosting an event to announce several new Star Wars-related attractions at both Disneyland and Disney World. During a televised special in celebration of Disney’s 60th Anniversary, Ford and a secondary announcer showed off several pieces of concept art featuring set-pieces for the planned locales. Visitors will be able to set foot in places made up to look like the Millennium Falcon, as well as a street market, and upscale dining resort, and a “local cantina.” Each of these locales will be set on a new fictional Star Wars planet — not sure if Lucasfilm will ensure that all of this new stuff will be part of the canon or not, though.
“The Star Wars Experience” (as Mr. Ford called it) included references to at least two planned rides: a Millennium Falcon flight simulator that puts you in the cockpit of the ship, and a gunplay altercation between the Resistance and First Order. There are very brief glimpses at what both of those experiences might look like in the video above.
Of course, attendees will also get to “meet aliens” and other characters from the movies, of course — that’s no big surprise since Star Wars characters have already begun to feature prominently in Disney parks, but no doubt this experience will require the parks to hire a whole lot more actors. Sounds like a dream gig, until you remember the low visibility of those Storm Trooper helmets …
Don’t pull any pranks on the Storm Troopers if you go to these theme parks, okay? It’s going to be tempting. But don’t.
