Woman Says She’ll Never Forget the Man Who Sat Next to Her on a Flight Out of Denver. When the Flight Landed He Vanished: ‘The Creepiest’

A woman’s unsettling flight out of Denver International Airport has left the internet buzzing after a viral TikTok video described her encounter with a passenger who vanished without a trace. The tale, shared by creator Ashlee Inc @ashleeinc in her popular Spooky Scary Storytime series, has racked up millions of views as commenters debate whether the story is a chilling paranormal experience or an elaborate hoax.
The story comes from a woman named Kate, who frequently flies for work and considers herself a seasoned traveler. She was catching an early flight out of Denver when she first noticed a strange man standing motionless near one of the airport’s infamous murals. Most travelers hustle through terminals, but this man stood still, watching people pass by.
He carried no luggage, no phone, and something about him gave Kate an immediate sense of unease. She glanced at the mural, expecting to spot something unusual, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Still, the man’s behavior stuck with her as she made her way to her gate. When boarding began, Kate settled into her aisle seat in row 18. Minutes later, the same man from the terminal walked onto the plane and took the middle seat next to her.
As passengers filed in, the man watched them intently
His gaze lingered on each person who passed. At one point, a toddler woke up, locked eyes with the man, and immediately buried his face in his mother’s shoulder. The man’s expression darkened, as if disappointed by the child’s reaction. The flight attendants began their safety demonstration, and Kate noticed the man mimicking their movements with unsettling precision. When they reached for the overhead oxygen masks, he did the same.
When they buckled their seatbelts, he followed suit, a few seconds behind. Kate assumed he was a first-time flyer, but his behavior grew stranger as the flight progressed. He leaned forward, pressing his face against the window as the plane taxied down the runway. “This is really something,” he muttered, his voice barely audible. When Kate asked if it was his first time flying, he simply replied, “Yes,” before adding cryptically, “I can’t believe we really did it.”
As the plane ascended, the man’s fascination with the view outside only intensified. He touched the window, tracing the clouds below, and asked Kate what they were made of. When she said water, he seemed surprised. “I’d assume it would be something heavier,” he said. His questions grew more unsettling. “Are you afraid of the sky?” he asked, pointing upward. Kate said no, and already on edge, put in her headphones and tried to ignore him.
But she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was very wrong
The man never blinked. He never adjusted his seat. He sat rigidly upright, staring out the window for the entire flight. When the flight attendant came by with drink service, she skipped him entirely, as if he weren’t there. Kate assumed the attendant thought he was asleep, but the man was wide awake, transfixed by the view. At one point, sunlight hit his hand, and he whispered, “It’s warm.”
When the plane landed, Kate stood up to grab her luggage. The man stood too, but with a noticeable delay, as if waiting for everyone else to move first. As she turned to say goodbye, he was gone. The window seat passenger, who had been there the whole time, looked at her in confusion when Kate asked where the man had gone. “Who?” the woman replied. “Honey, there was nobody sitting next to us.”
Kate was stunned. She had spent the entire flight talking to this man, watching him mimic the flight attendants, listening to his bizarre questions. There was no way he could have slipped past her. Yet the woman next to her insisted no one had been there. Kate scanned the plane, searching for any sign of the man, but he had vanished. The encounter left her questioning everything she thought she knew about the airport and the conspiracy theories surrounding it.
Denver International Airport has long been a hotspot for bizarre conspiracy theories
Kate’s story only adds fuel to the fire. According to The Independent, the airport’s murals, underground tunnels, and even its infamous blue mustang statue with glowing red eyes have all been tied to wild claims of secret societies, lizard people, and hidden government bunkers.
The murals inside the airport, painted by artist Leo Tanguma, have been particularly controversial. Some sections depict war, destruction, and children in coffins, leading theorists to claim they’re coded prophecies of global domination. Tanguma, however, insists the murals are meant to convey hope and environmental unity. Still, the eerie imagery has only deepened the airport’s mystique.
Then there’s the 32-foot-tall blue mustang statue, nicknamed “Blucifer” by locals. Its glowing red eyes have sparked theories about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, but the real story is tragic. The artist, Luis Jiménez, was killed in 2006 when a piece of the sculpture fell on him during construction. His wife has said the eyes were meant to honor his father, who owned a neon-sign shop, and that they hold no sinister meaning.
Kate’s story has reignited interest in Denver International’s reputation as a hub for the unexplained. While she has flown out of the airport multiple times since the incident, she still can’t shake the feeling that something supernatural, or at least deeply strange, happened on that flight. She’s left wondering if the airport’s conspiracy theories might hold more truth than she ever imagined.
