Last April DC revealed plans for a “DC Super Hero Girls” line aimed at girls ages 6-12, and now the brand’s official website is finally live!
Part of a partnership between DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, and Mattel, the line focuses on what life is like as a teenaged superhero for some of DC’s most diverse and bad-ass female characters. The interactive site allows visitors to explore Super Hero High and meet the Super Hero Girls (Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy, and Katana).
Although some of DC’s other recent diversity efforts have been criticized for failing to make concrete strides in epresentation, the Super Hero Girls seems to be nailing it so far. (I’m especially impressed that, despite the high school setting, the website focuses on the girls’ strengths and friendships rather than their romantic lives. )
