Furious 7’s James Wan Will Direct Aquaman!

The Fast and the Flipperous.

We know very little about this movie other than that it’s killing it in the diversity department so far, and that’s enough for us at the moment.

In addition to casting someone of native Hawaiian descent, Jason Momoa, as Aquaman himself, the movie has now added Malaysian Chinese director James Wan to the project, reports THR. Wan is fresh off of directing Furious 7 and pretty much killing it with that project, so we can’t wait to see what he does with Aquaman—and Warner Bros. obviously feels the same way. He’s got a lot on his plate with the closing of his deal to direct Sony’s Robotech adaptation also being announced as well as The Conjuring 2, so he can’t have been easy to get.

Sadly, this probably also means he won’t be directing Dwayne The Rock Johnson again in Shazam as was previously hinted, but Aquaman was probably one of the things discussed in those “There’s lots of talks about lots of things.” He will probably get to put his experience with fast-paced action sequences to good use, although there probably aren’t a lot of cars in Atlantis. But his varied résumé of projects from Insidious and The Conjuring to the trailer for the game Dead Space should give him plenty to draw from.

Here’s hoping for some crazy submarine races or something, though.
