Lamine Yamal has become one of football’s biggest stars at just 19, but some of the tournament’s most memorable moments have happened away from the ball. Throughout Spain’s World Cup run, cameras repeatedly caught the teenager celebrating with the people closest to him, giving fans a glimpse of the family life behind the headlines.
That happened again after Spain won the biggest prize in international football. While teammates celebrated in front of thousands of supporters, one small moment on the pitch quickly attracted just as much attention online.
PEOPLE reported that moments after the final whistle, Yamal’s three-year-old brother, Keyne, ran onto the field. He then wrapped the Spain star in a joyful hug following the team’s victory over Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
The celebration soon became about more than the trophy
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in Sunday’s World Cup final, with Ferran Torres scoring the only goal of the match to secure the country’s second World Cup title. As celebrations unfolded around the stadium, Yamal was soon reunited with his younger brother in a moment that stood out among the post-match scenes.
Yamal bent down to meet him before lifting him into his arms. The brothers then shared a long hug as celebrations continued around them. It was a simple exchange, but its timing helped it stand out from the more formal scenes taking place elsewhere on the field.
The clip quickly spread across social media because it offered something different from the usual images of medals and confetti. It also came as the World Cup trophy ceremony was already drawing attention ahead of the final over concerns that political figures could overshadow the players.
Those concerns came during a tournament played across North America in demanding summer conditions. Analysts had also warned that FIFA is facing a mounting health crisis after dozens of matches were flagged for potentially dangerous heat exposure.
The final itself capped an impressive campaign for Spain, which navigated a difficult knockout stage before meeting defending champions Argentina in the title match. The narrow victory was enough to bring the World Cup trophy back to Spain after years of waiting.
The breakthrough finally came in the 106th minute of extra time. Ferran Torres got beyond Martínez and scored the only goal, ending Argentina’s hopes of winning consecutive World Cups.
Spain generated 12 shots on target while Argentina failed to register one. The narrow scoreline therefore did not fully reflect the difference in attacking opportunities, although Martínez’s performance kept the result uncertain until Torres found a way through.
The victory gave Spain its first World Cup title since 2010, when Andrés Iniesta scored the extra-time winner against the Netherlands. It also marked a successful World Cup debut for Yamal, who arrived at the tournament carrying high expectations after his rapid rise with Barcelona and Spain.
