Thor: The Dark World

  1. Untouched Thor 2 Scene Features Tom Hiddleton Dressed as Captain America

If you're confused, you might need a reminder (or explanation) that in this scene in Thor: The Dark World, Loki transforms himself into a likeness of Steve Rogers in the Captain America suit to needle Thor. Tom Hiddleston explains that this scene was filmed and then shown to Chris Evans, so that he could capture Loki as Cap in his own performance, "It's him doing an impression of me doing an impression of him, and it's brilliant." On the contrary, Mr. Hiddleston, it's Chris Evans doing an impression of your impression of Loki's impression of Captain America. We need to go deeper. But that still doesn't explain why this scene required Tom Hiddleston to wear his own Captain America suit.

  2. Watch Loki Cosplay As Captain America Because Why Not [Video]

Somewhere in a parallel universe, Chris Evans is wearing Loki's outfit. This idea pleases us.

Spoilers for Thor: The Dark World if you were waiting for the DVD (but whatever, you know we don't care) -- remember that great cameo Chris Evans had as Loki pretending to be Captain America? As luck would have it, there's now also footage that's been released of Tom Hiddleston wearing the stars and stripes himself.

  4. Unused Concept Art Shows Thor 2 Almost Introduced Valkyrie

    old gods do new jobs

Concept Artist Josh Nizzi shared a number of unused art he produced for Thor: The Dark World, and among them are three progress shots of Valkyrie, or at the very least, a Valkyrie. While Vaklyrie is a superhero with a long history in the Marvel universe, and many incarnations within mortal women, she first appeared as about as literal a straw feminist as you can get: an pawn of the Enchantress created to divide the Avengers along gender lines by encouraging the Wasp, Medusa, Black Widow, and Scarlet Witch to embrace women's lib. In retrospect, I assumed the issue would be kind of painful to read, but it turns out there's no better response than laughter to the existence of a comic in which someone smashes through a window and yells "UP AGAINST THE WALL, MALE CHAUVINIST PIG" at the Hulk. That's a line that's really lost on any color of Hulk except perhaps this one. It's a pity Valkyrie (or a Valkyrie, or the Valkyries, I'm not picky) didn't get her debut in The Dark World, but really the movie had enough on its plate already. Maybe next time. You can find two more pieces of concept art, including one with her winged horse Aragorn, at Nizzi's page.

    Warning: May Contain Feelings

A little while ago, Jaimie Alexander told an interviewer that she was getting more involved with the children's hospital in LA and hoped to go in-character to hang out with the kids sometime soon. Well, she did this week, giving out posters and DVDs and letting the kids pose with Sif's sword and shield. Cuuuuuuuuuuute.

  10. Lightning, Thunderclouds, Thor 2

    Review

These are dark times. Dark and gritty times. Or so it would seem from our choices at the box office, where trends kicked up (but hardly established) by the Nolanverse Batman films continue to cloud every superhero franchise for miles around. This is a land where wonderment is traded for plot expedience, story pacing replaced by gorgeous, if rampant, CGI. Thor: The Dark World is no exception, being as dark as its title suggests. Fun to watch, but ultimately only slightly more substantial than its predecessor, T:TDW suffers from being the middle chapter of its series, if not a smaller piece in the giant puzzle that is the MCU. Its visual clout may be mighty, but its story lacks punch. Engage at your peril, for through this ethereal portal lie SPOILERS.
