Kate Beaton, Carly Monardo, and Meredith Gran Present: Strong Female Characters

The aforementioned ladies have developed this witheringly sarcastic take on what Hollywood regularly passes off as a Strong Female Character, expressed in a nugget by Mlawski of OverthinkingIt.com thusly (for a bigger nugget, read the whole post):

I think the major problem here is that women were clamoring for “strong female characters,” and male writers misunderstood.  They thought the feminists meant [Strong Female] Characters.  The feminists meant [Strong Characters], Female.

Do we wish that we could publish everything Kate Beaton does?

‘Strong Female Characters’ quite often have serious daddy issues that tend to be their weakness in some regard. That or a history of abuse. Oh, and it’s always handled very poorly, too..

The ending was genious. I couldn’t help but remember Sucker Punch when I saw that.

But what does that have to do with the “Eat lead” line?  I feel like I am missing something very obvious….
