They had everything in place for the perfect proposal; then a California Karen almost ruined it all: ‘Go back to Mexico’
A Latino couple hoping to capture their meticulously planned proposal on camera in a scenic California park almost had the whole thing ruined after a passerby decided to interfere and spoil their special moment with a racist rant.
The footage, which has since gone viral on Instagram, receiving almost 900k likes, was posted by wedding photographer Trinity Lugo of Trinity Films. The video captures the moment before the couple arrives on the scene. As the photographers wait, a woman walking her dog approaches them.
A part of the park was used to set up the proposal, with petals spread across the grass and a band waiting to play, but the unidentified woman seems upset over the park temporarily being used by them. “The park is for people who live here and enjoy the park and have picnics,” she tells the photography team. She also claims that “They don’t allow events on the grass here.”
Although they tell her that they won’t be there for long, the woman refuses to back down, snapping at them, “I don’t care. It’s every single f—ing weekend, and I’m sick and tired of it.” Trinity tries to reason with the woman, telling her, “We weren’t here last weekend.”
The woman also tells the photographers that she’s called the cops, claiming they will “make you tear it down.”
The couple show up, and the woman gets louder
As the couple approach, Trinity tries to shush the woman, which only makes things tenser. Then the mariachi band starts playing, prompting the woman to get angrier. “Bulls–t, it’s f—ing Mexican; this isn’t Mexico either, you motherf—ers,” she says before shouting, “go back to Mexico,” towards the couple who are approaching the scenic spot in the park.
Regardless, the rest of the event went off without a hitch, and Trinity got the perfect shot of the proposal.
In the video description, Trinity claimed that the proposal only lasted around 40 minutes and that engagements were not prohibited in the park. While we’ve definitely seen racist Karens have worse public meltdowns, this one has certainly enraged viewers. “WHATS HER NAME!!!??!?!? The internet needs to do their thanggggggggg,” wrote one commenter. Others joked that they would send the band to her front yard.
Meanwhile, another commenter wrote, “It’s unbelievable to me, that anyone would ever be upset over someone else’s joy. Especially a marriage proposal!” It seems the Karen had the support of nobody.
According to TMZ, Trinity claimed that she waited in the area for the cops to show up and confronted the woman after the proposal. She also told the woman that they “had her on video being racist, and she ran away from us.”
